Forums - Microsoft - Framerate issues in Blue Dragon Demo

Hey all,

I have a sneaking suspicion that my 360 is about to RRoD on me.  I heard a rumor that usually before RRoD occurs that framerates in some games drop, but I can't really confirm if I'm having an issue because of hardware problems or just crummy programming.

So I ask ye:  Are the framerates in the Blue Dragon demo really that crummy (battle transitions, when people are making their attack, etc) or am I just about to be fubar?  And if the BD demo frame rates really are that bad, is the final game this way as well?

If so, BD is going from a "buy" to a "do not buy" real quick like.

Wii: 14 million by January  I sold myself short

360: 13 million by January I sold microsoft short, but not as bad as Nintendo.

PS3: 6 million by January. If it approaches 8 mil i'll eat crow  Mnn Crow is yummy.

With these results, I've determined that I suck at long term predictions, and will not long term predict anything ever again. Thus spaketh Crono.

I noticed the same issue on my friends system with a few game demo's such as Quake 4, Contra and Double Dragon... anyone else notice this in the demo's? Quake 4's opening skipped slowly across the screen on his system. Is he also heading towards the RROD with his system?

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Blue Dragon, the US demo did have framerate issues. Just check the NeoGAF blue dragon thread.

However, according to owners of the Japanese version, they had no lag issues at all. So I assume its just an issue with the US demo, and nothing more.

Trust me, just because there's some lag here and there, it doesn't mean your going to RROD. I had plenty of lag before, and still do on certain games, and it didn't RROD on me at those times.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Q4 was an early release and had some problems, loooooong loading times and as mentioned, a low framerate sometimes.

Played it, loved it, no issues= PERFECT

Microsoft really needs to get their demos in gear then. Had I not asked, I would have assumed that the release BD had the same framerate issues, and thus a non-buy.

It makes me question the Project Sylpheed demo. When its busy, it has a steady framerate thats just a few frames too low for my liking, but when its not busy, its smooth as silk. Is the release game the same way? If the release game is smooth as silk, even when tons of enemy's are on screen, I'd buy it, but theres no way of me knowing, and I'm not going to waste 6 bucks on a rental to find out.

The demo should be indicative to how the purchased product will behave. Otherwise its misleading and ends up hurting software sales, in my opinion.

Demos should never, ever be taken as the rule of thumb for the finished product - you should know this by now.

The NCAA Football 08 demo was absolute garbage, IMO. Wasn't good at all. I can't begin to count the demos that were sub-par, that ended up rather good. Demos are just that - a small, small slice into the pie of the game.

Either way, I loved the Blue Dragon Demo, and the game went from a might buy 1st week, to a 1st day buy no matter what for me....And thats saying alot. I've bought all of 5 games in the past 7 years on launch day.

Lemme get this traight, you are complaining about frame rate drops in the demo of a turn based RPG???

I mean a sports game or a shooter maybe, but a turn based RPG...

Demos are never final versions of the game, I think everyone knows that when they download a demo and sometimes it says in the demo- not the final product.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
