If you like adventure games try out the Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton and Hotel Dusk games, they're the only games that I enjoyed on the DS.

Congrats Starcraft, I believe you´re in the rigth path(except for the x360 part, but that´s not the point here). I tried a ds lite myself, couse one cousin asked my dad to get one(he travels a lot) and I had it for two days(no time at all but got a feeling of the system). Man, looks like a little improved version of my old GB color with a added touch screen. Than later I tried in a shop in the US a PSP, looked like they shrinked a ps2 into a handheld, been in love ever since, but lack of money stoped me from getting it( just got the ps3).
But the Ds has more games and if this is your only interest, give a chance to some of the best games of the DS, maybe you find something you like. If Graphics were everything people wouldn´t still play old GB(like I do) and ataris, or even NES.

I think the PSP is a better system that the DS. I'd sure hope so, being that it cost me twice as much. But I have far more games, and there are far more games I'm interested in, on the DS. But, having both, I can just play both and be happy.

I'd like to start by making the preface that this is an opinion thread.  MY opinion in this thread will not gel with the majority opinion of members of this site.  Feel free to post alternate opinions to my own, and to point out why mine may be incorrect, but leave personal attacks out of it please.

I picked up a DS Lite a few months back for an extremely cheap price.  My gaming time of late has been limited (along with my VGC post count) due to University and work.  As such, I was hoping to add some portable gaming into the mix to supplement my gaming hobby at times when I would otherwise be doing nothing such as train trips etc.

I picked it up with FFXII: Revenant Wings and New Super Mario Brothers, and have played a few other titles intermittently.  I'd like to acknowledge right now that this means I have barely scratched the surface of the DS's library, and this is a preliminary opinion piece only.  Whilst I am not implying that the DS is a poor form of entertainment, it has not grabbed me to nearly the extent I believed it would.  I find it's RPG's difficult to get into, it holds little allure as a form of entertainment beyond that of convenience and it overall would not have been worth it had I paid full price for the console.  Indeed, the reason I got it so cheap is because the person I bought it from (an ex-girlfriend) got bored with it very quickly.

New Super Mario Bros is easily the best game I have played on the console, and I will say that I have enjoyed it a lot.  That said, it is a classic Mario platformer and not enjoying it really would be the final straw.  Even saying this, the title hasn't grabbed me as I thought it would.  It occured to me that perhaps I just don't like portable gaming, but this holds little water as I still play Pokemon and Jurassic Park on my old Gameboy Pocket.

But last week I got the pleasure of borrowing my friend's PSP.  With it, I got FFVII: Crisis Core and GoW: CoO.  This my friends, is what portable gaming is supposed to be.  An epic experience that fits in your pocket.  I found the console to be aesthetically far more pleasing, and better controlled.  I'm giving serious thought to purchasing one of my own.  From my admittedely limited software experience with each console, I must say that I find the PSP to be FAR superior for my own tastes.  Some may call me a graphics whore but i don't own the most proven graphically-enabled console to date (PS3), but as I said, I still play my Gameboy, and I also still play my Nintendo 64.

I'm am severely tempted to sell the DS, but I am looking to rent The World Ends With You and thinking of waiting for Chrono Trigger.  If those two titles can't save my perception of the console, nothing will.

Fixed . sorry couldn't resist

I would probably agree, or would at least say that neither of the portable consoles live up to what portable gaming should and could be.

I've always been a Nintendo man on the portable front. I own every Game Boy except the Pocket, so I was expecting great things when I picked up my DS. However, although I had fun with the main offerings such as Brain Age, New Super Mario Brothers, Advance Wars and Castlevania, these games just didn't hold the same charm and give me the same blissful gaming experience that I recall with my Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. I'm not sure if this is because the quality of the games has gotten worse or my maturing expectations of what constitutes a good game have just strengthened.

Either way, my overall enjoyment has decreased. I'd take the original Wario Land or Pokemon Red version over Wario Master of Disguise and Pokemon Diamond any day.

I'm on the same boat with you (on handhelds). I don't think the DS will ever have a game that is as good as CCFF7...but that's just an oppinion. The sheer quantity of games hitting the DS every week destroys the PSP.

Also if you could please explain the part in the bold I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I'm waiting for the 3000 and I'll be a PSP owner.

These things are expensive buddy. Finding the asbestos alone costs a fortune. In the future, please don't hand them out like party favors...

"most graphically-enabled console to date (XBox 360)"

hahahahhahah omg that is such a lie

The DS is the best handheld console ever made. And I'm pretty sure that's a fact.
