It just stopped reading discs. I an put in a game and it doesn't recognize that it's in there, and If I'm quiet I can here the blu-ray drive struggling to read it. What the hell? I thought this hardware was supposed to be reliable.

So if I end up having to send it in, should I take my hard drive out before sending it?

Reliable doesn't mean unbreakable, these things happen. I think you're advised to back up all the information on the HDD before you send it in to Sony.

Uh oh.  That doesn't have the card readers, correct?  I think the only way of backing up your HDD then is with a USB Flash Drive and just copy all your game saves and such over to the USB Flash Drive.

This happened to me too. I sent it to Sony, got to wait 8 weeks, and got a fixed one back. It now works, but I'm scared to update any more firmware updates.
