Forums - Gaming - SRPGs similar to Disgaea series and Final Fantasy Tactics?

If you can find it, Tactics Ogre for PS1 is one of the best SRPG's out there. It runs in the $60-100 range though.

I am sure you have played Final Fantasy: Tactics, but if not pick up a copy. They are pretty cheap and relatively easy to find.

Jeanne D'Arc will be right up your alley too, although it isn't anywhere near as difficult as the Disgaea games. But it is incredibly well made.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Here are some suggestions

1. Tactics Ogre (GBA- about $25)
2. Fire Emblem (GBA- $20 or so I think)
3. Fire Emblem: the sacred stones (GBA should be $20 or so... I think most used GBA SRPGs are)
4. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA)
5. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (DS- $40)
6. Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP- $20)
7. Jeanne D'arc (PSP- $15 used)
8. Shining Force: Resurection of Dark Dragon (GBA- about $20)
if you really liked shining force...
9. Shining Force 2 (Sega Genesis, dunnno price)
10. Shining Force 3 (Sega Saturn- really good but unfortunately $85)
there is also another shining force game for sega CD that is 2 games in one and bridges the story between shining force and shining force 2
11. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Gamecube- dunno price, should be less than $30)
12. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii- similar price to GC one I bet)
13. Spectral Force 3 (Xbox 360- should be about $55 now, its pretty new)

since she has a PSP, I recomend getting Jeanne D'arc and FFT first. If she has a GBA, all those games are good. I like the Fire Emblem series the best of any SRPG series. I bought my PSP mainly for SRPGs :D (its has tons of other good games too though, like Sonic and Mege Man and Gow of War and Patapon and Loco Roco and Daxter and Riviera and Final Fantasy... GO PSP!)

We went to Walmart to get my oil changed, browsed around the store and unfortunately they had nothing for her. I got lucky however and found that they actually had Tales of the Abyss there for $14.99

We then went to Gamestop and they did not have Makai Kingdom or Phantom Brave.

I guess I will just have to go upstairs grab La Pucelle Tactics and let her play that.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

If you can find the original Tactics Ogre somehow, you'd be set.

Hmm.... and is your girl friend just doing to stories and just doesn't bother with all the extra content in dissgaea???

Sadly, she only does the story portion. She may dig deeper into Disgaea 3 however because she wants Laharl and Adell on her team. Plus the fact she won't have a 4th game to jump into.

It's kind of like Final Fantasy Tactics' surlier, grittier, considerably more metal big brother.

^ $100 on eBay?!!! Wow...

Time to dust off the PSP again I guess. *cough*

They should really put some of these high priced games on PSN so people actually have the chance to play them.

Maybe Quest would have been willing to help you, or Atlus back when they were publishing the Ogre titles in the States, but Square just wants your money.

Also, they don't care about Ogre Battle or Tactics Ogre, because somehow FFT managed to be more popular than either of them.

Gee, I wonder how.

^ How depressing. As I know right now Atlus > Square.

It used to be Square #1 for me until I first found a game called Disgaea at Gamestop and decided to pick it up because I liked the box art.
