Every point you made can be said about both guitars.  GH buttons are harder to keep your fingers on, no high fret buttons, and it feels cheap and easily breakable as well.

What I don't get is how the Xbox 360 controller can be tops when the D-pad is lamented as being poor (so poor that the non-American territories have received an update/upgrade).

Also, I tend not to think of some of those special set-ups the same way I think of standard controllers. Putting them together ($200 special set up for one game/game-type followed by pack-in controller) really makes for a strange list.

360 broken dpad and HUGE?

I really liked the dualshock and the SNES one.

I would have to say that the SNES pad was the best, and most historically significant pad.

The 360 pad is generic, I see little as to why it should be #1. It is a more comfortable clone of the XBox controller which was just a bit different than the GC controller. I don't agree at all :-\

My best controller would be a a mix of the Dualshock and the 360 pad. Use the 360 case and triggers but switch out the rest of the stuff with the PS3 controller.

I don't like gamedaily at all, and no mention of the Wii remote or the Power Glove (joke) is fail! Plus the ranking of those controllers are so off, though I'm surprised this guy didn't say Xbox 1 controller as #2, but really the best controller ever is mouse and keyboard, Wii remote, 360 controller, GC controller, the dualshock 1 & 2 controllers tied with SNES controller, and then dualshock 3 only because those L2 and R2 triggers don't feel as natural as they should, then from there on I don't even care anymore lol it could be a classic Atari joystick for all I care.

The xbox 360 controller is a copy from the dreamcast controller so how can it be #1 if it is a clone??? My #1 would be The ps2 controller
