Specifically, I'm talking about Moria and Angband. Is it related to the fact they don't have a cover illustration submitted?

For games that never had a cover, is a shot of the splash screen acceptable?
^ Box art says it all. So I'm assuming no.
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
Oh well. Anyways, let it be known to everybody - two of the most cherished roguelikes are now in vgchartz database!
If a game NEVER had a boxart, then yes you can upload the title screen to replace it. This has happened in a few areas.

Wow. I just searched for Nethack and found that too. I'm impressed. But if we're including open source and freeware titles in the game database, we really need a better term than "game owners" for the people who've downloaded/played them. I'm talking specifically about the Game Owners section in the Game Summary page. Either that, or there needs to be some way to separate free software from commercial software on our My Games pages.
I don't think we are generally accepting freeware or open source items in the DB. I'd have to double check with talonman. It was brought up but I don't remember the decision. There have been PC releases without box arts which is why I said it was ok.

I was referring to the fact that we're currently including at least three freeware titles in the database: Moria, Angband and Nethack. Given the non-acceptance of such titles as new entries, how are existing entries going to be handled? There would be issues with page structures that would arise if they were to be kept, and that's what my post above was trying to highlight.
I don't think anyone was criticising or questioning your decision about box arts, but it'll be moot anyway if the titles are deleted.
