Forums - Sony - Online store claims the PS3 will have BC with PS2.

Highly possible , probably unlikely till PS2 dies.

"If VideoGameCentral is to be believed, it is stated in their product description of a 80GB Console that there is a Playstation 2 Emulator available for download, which is the only way to play PS2 games for our PS3 consoles that are not backwards compatible. Is there something Sony’s not telling us? Could Sony be releasing a PS2 Emulator? Will it be on the 2.50 Firmware that is coming out soon?"

"Now is the time for PS3 80GB Console. In fact there is no reason now not to get the Sony Playstation 3, especially at this new lower price with all it's hi-def bells & whistles. The new 80-Gig PS3 System features the ability to play PS3 Games, Blu-rays & DVD movies (PS2 Games can be played when downloading Sony's PS2 emulator software online). Also connect to the internet for free online play & downloadable games! To date, the PlayStation3 is the strongest gaming system available and also the lowest price true high definition Blu Ray Movie Player."

well, I have a 60 gigger...soo

this could turn the tide this christmas, people arent prepared to lose all their PS2 games and now they dont have to!

This would be immense for all those people who bought their ps3 to play ps2 games on it.

For everyone else, its irrelevant

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

@colonelstubbs: When my PS2 inevitably dies, it will probably mean the difference between me getting a PS3... or just another PS2.

This would be really good and I hope it's true.  I already have a PS3 but I think it sucks that non-early adopters won't be getting PS2 BC anymore.

well this would be cool for bc-less ps3 owners I guess

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yea thatd be pretty sweet. If its true, itd be interesting to see if PS3 sales in japan will go back to pre-BC cut.

I really don't understand why they havent had software emulation this whole time.

Is that what the last 80GB with BC had? Software emulation for most PS2 games correct? So whats so hard about keeping it? Sony can be really dumb...

If true, that would be some trick that Sony cooked up seeing how they have trouble getting the 80gb systems with the ee chip in it to play all games without glitches.
