Forums - Sony - Sony will infact have a price cut....

for the psp

we have all heard/seen nintendo's DSi. some let down some happy. but we can all probably agree that this can hurt sales of the psp, especially in japan.  the DSi is said to be price at 18900yen which is around $180 (which i assume is going to release in america with the price of $199.99 or so) which is basically the same as the psp costs.

Now the psp has the new 3000 series on its way and should be hitting the japanese market later this month. now i dont expect a price cut as soon as it hits the market i believe sony will wait and see how much this effects the sales. but i do believe, if a price cut indeed does happen, will be around the release of dissidia in japan. bundle that with the psp priced at 15735yen, or lower depending on what they feel necessary, and bam you got yourself a nice boost in sales. although it wont last that long but it will help somewhat

so what do you think, do you believe sony will give a moderate price cut on the psp to try and gain some lost sales from the DSi?

Nah. Sony hasn't done anything at all to compete with the DS. It's like they pretend it's not their yet for some reason a bunch of games are going "missing." I don't even remember the last time Sony even muttered "DS" ;3

If they do have a price cut, it would be for reasons other than competing with the DS. They've lost to the DS...and badly too. Nothing they can really do nor should do.

while this is all true i do believe sony is starting to turn a new leaf on the psp. with some nice new games announced i do believe they are still trying to game a decent market share so they can continue on with a psp2 in a couple year, so yes while this price cut will be coincendently look like its trying to steal from the DSi i believe it would be more of a move to build a larger install base for the psp2
