Forums - Sales - The Xbox 360 will pwn the...... BAH! I don't care anymore. HW sales = bore.

I don't care that much about hardware sales any more. Sure they are important but they are the means to a much greater end - software sales. We play games, we don't play hardware. The health of the industry is indicated by the software numbers, because without the money from software sales there would be no further development on any console.

To be honest I spend far more time looking at software sales and metacritic scores than the actual hardware numbers. I especially like it when theres a new million seller or a game cracks some milestone like 3 million or 5 million sales, but really its never enough as I always want more sales and more growth in the industry.

There are a lot of games coming out this Holiday season. Its making me very nervous and it was a relief when Microsoft announced all those price cuts because I was kinda scared that many of the brilliant games coming out would fall through the cracks and not achieve the sales they deserve or even worse! Lose money. I have hopes that an obscene quantity of software will be moved in the next 3 months to give each game its due dilligence.

Tease.

Hey, as long as your system(s) of choice is getting the games you want, worrying too much about sales is a waste of energy.

Besides, the 360 is a huge software seller, 3rd party titles usually sell very well on the platform....that alone guarantees it a healthy 3rd party support.

@Squilliam

Then I implore you to start software number tracking the difference between 360 and PS3 (or even the Wii). You should see some pretty pwning numbers, if last weeks 900k pwning was any indication.

I know I will buying between 6-8 of those games coming out in the next three months

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Maybe you should cuddle your Tribbles...

My view is unless you own stock don't get worked up about it.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I don't think you can compare software numbers because the 360 came out one year earlier. It would be equal to compare Wii and the PS3, but not the 360. Then again, comparing the 360 to Wii and PS3 console sales would still put the other consoles at a disadvantage because they came out one year late.

this guy rocks up every couple of days with some weird xbox topic. MS are doing well so chill

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It's interesting that people argue so much more passionately about HW. Even Mario vs Sonic in the early 90s was much more about Mega drive/Genisis vs SNES than the actual games.

It's not unimaginable that once consoles acheive a technical standard that is not noticably surpassable we will see games going single format. This would eliminate fanboys and create a world where I can lend you my favourite game and you can play it on your console regardless of the manufacturer. And wouldn't that be lovely?

Maybe the hardware numbers are getting boring because this generation is basically set: The Wii will dominate and the 360/PS3 will likely end the generation within 10% of each other.
