Forums - Nintendo - Will there really be DSi ONLY games?

Just for reference, the Nintendo website does point out that "DSi games" will not run on DS hardware. Of course, like several other things, it doesn't go into detail about what this means, and may indeed only be limited to what the OP refers to as "games" that aren't really games.

Around the Network

If the DSi is to the DS-line what Color was to Gameboy-line we might see games that has exclusive DSi stuff but works perfectly on the regular DS at first(like Link's Awakening DX), but after a while we start seeing more and more DSi exclusive games(like Wario Land 3)

melbye,

That would split the DS market and not every one is going to up grade. Secondly, Nintendo stated that the DSI is being released because the DS hit its saturation point in Japan. Which means that a new model DS would increase the sales of the DS. What you are saying is that the DSI would be a new iteration of the DS which it clearly is not. There are no new graphical capabilities, no new CPU, and it still only uses one touch screen. The only differences between the DS and the DSI are the Cameras, SD card slot, Internal Memory, and the lack of a GBA slot for the DSI model. The DS/DSI is pretty much like the GBA/SP/Micro. All games developed for the GBA worked on the GBA SP and the Micro.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Should get that looked at.

I wasn't being sarcastic by the way--the Lite will almost certainly see a price drop soon, and sales will be much higher than they were this year due to the obviously-much-improved software support over this year.

Still, they would need to up the amount of Lites they produce considerably to get anywhere near there, and I just don't see that happening if the focus is to shift to the DSi.

I can see the next Drawn to Life game from THQ utilizing the camera, but I can also see it being an optional function in the game. Overall I think downloadable titles will be the only ones to be DSi exclusive.
