Now why in the hell did you do this?  This thread has nothing to do with the PS3 and you even picked the side most likely to lose in the end based on history and critic scores.  Please stop making me wish I wasn't a fan of the same console as you.

Critic-wise? I dunno. They seem to have equal chances to me. Both universes are interesting (SO universe doesn't need to be explained, DS-seems gothic, cold, and dark... that that strikes a string of interest with me). Both seem to be good looking from screenshots... it's too early to say anything now, but I don't think the games will end up far apart when it comes to scores.

To be fair, however, From Software really isn't the bastion of great JRPGs as far as I can remember:

From Software Tri-Ace
Enchanted Arms Star Ocean Series
Kings Field Valkyrie Profile Series
Forever Kingdom Radiata Stories
Eternal Ring Infinite Undiscovery
Evergrace  

That's not to say that Sony being involved with From Software's new JRPG won't help it - I am sure it'll be a great game. However, if we were placing bets, I think a major Tri-Ace effort backed by Square Enix and Microsoft coffers may stand a better chance. But time will tell.

Same here, actually. Due to tri-Ace being better JRPG devs in general.

Now, lets get back on topic. At any rate, I think the screenshots - especially the real time ones in battle, are great. Look very close to Final Fantasy XIII, which is a good thing.

No. The whole story of Star Ocean 4 (which is a prequel to the rest of the SO series), is that World War 3 started in 2063, destroying most every part of the Earth (hence the nukes going off, and the pictures of ruined cityscapes). Humanity makes contacts with aliens and rebuilds somewhat, and sends the first crews off to explore space - Which your character is part of.

 

Hmm, sounds intriguing to me. I hope for a great storyline, and this one has a great start.

All i know about demon soul is that it looks pretty. I hope it will be great cause I love great games. but not liking star ocean series for no good reason is nutz. Im pretty sure it is a times exclusive anyway so just relax. Square enix has been talking multiplatform for awhile now and MS has been getting timed exclusives instead of full exclusives. so relax and wait for it if your never getting a 360.

Yes, but you'd be suprised what major backing and good oversight can do to a game. A good example would be Blue Dragon. It wasn't even made by Mistwalker, but by Artoon - Vampire's Rain Artoon. Yes, that developer. I know not everyone likes Blue Dragon, but it shows what proper management and oversight can do.

Which allows me to want to be positive about a JRPG I will never play, but at any rate, Tri-Ace is a very capable developer on doing a quality job on their games, even with IU being mediocre by some standards (And for comparison: Look at Tales of Vesperia versus Eternal Sonata).

As a PS3 "fan" I have to say that this game looks really good. I'm not jealous because either we'll get the game anyway in another year and/or I'll stop caring (usually, I stop caring; see: Eternal Sonata).

Heh, hopes for DS just went up a bit... SCEJ know how to make good games.

Why won't you ever play it though? won't get a PS3 anytime this gen?
