Forums - Gaming - 720p or 1080i?

I can't tell which to play my 360 in. The differences seemed slight; however I noticed that Oblivion seemed to look a bit better in 1080i, but Geometry Wars seemed slightly slower... I think

I can't tell the difference. I changed mine to 720p because people said it was better, but a while ago I reset my settings and I had no idea it changed back to 1080i till I checked like a month later.

720p or 1080p. i is FTL.

720p hands down, its less blurry.

As a Wii owner and admitted Nintendo fanboy I say ... YES, please.

For fast moving images 720p is superior
For slow moving images 1080i is superior

I play 1080i, I think it looks bettar.

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

Some may say it depends on taste, but truth is 720P is a much sharper resolution than 1080i. I would even go as far as 480p is better than 1080i.

The high resolution of 1080i is worth nothing without the progressive scan (which makes the image look crisp).

Well, 1080i has better color... but may be too much anyway. I bought GW2 and the colors in that game made me dazed. 720P>1080i in general then? Changing to 1080i to play eternal sonata, then back to 720P to play burnout is too much work...

you get more pixels with 1080i obviously, but you get half the frame rate. the i in 1080i means interlaced, which means that every other line gets drawn on the screen and then is quickly removed and the lines that were initially missing are drawn, this is done so fast that your eye sees one screen. Though for fast moving things this causes motion blur. 720p you get less pixels, but double the frame rate because it draws the entire screen all at once, and does this 60 times every second, 1080i draws 60 half screens every second. So in reality 1080i is actually 30fps. So unless you have a big tv and only play slow moving games and watch slow moving tv/movies then 1080i would be acceptable, but generally, 720p is better.
