Gaming - 720p or 1080i? - View Post

you get more pixels with 1080i obviously, but you get half the frame rate. the i in 1080i means interlaced, which means that every other line gets drawn on the screen and then is quickly removed and the lines that were initially missing are drawn, this is done so fast that your eye sees one screen. Though for fast moving things this causes motion blur. 720p you get less pixels, but double the frame rate because it draws the entire screen all at once, and does this 60 times every second, 1080i draws 60 half screens every second. So in reality 1080i is actually 30fps. So unless you have a big tv and only play slow moving games and watch slow moving tv/movies then 1080i would be acceptable, but generally, 720p is better.
