Forums - Sony - Bioshock demo on EU PS Store, impressions

Okay, I have now played the demo and I must say that I was blown away, with dissapointment...

This is coming from someone who played BioShock on the PC though, so take it with a grain of salt.

The controls feel quite akward most of the time (no use of the d-pad so far, jump on Triangle, you don't get to see what weapon or plasmid you change to, which makes changing weapons at least, feel like pure guesswork on whether your next weapon will work better than the one you have now...), which pared with notable frame rate drop and pop-in every once in a while, makes for a first impression which could certainly have been better.

Now, it should be noted that I was never a part of that "Bioshock is teh awesome, godliness!", and I am still not.

Sure, it was a good game, but I am glad I didn't pay the price of a console game for it, and after this demo I certainly wont be bothered with the PS3 version.

I thought it was quite interesting game but i dont think i will buy it.

a crap game is not going to be good all of a sudden because of it having a ps3 version.

That's it: You've played the PC version. Obviously, it was already superior to the console versions (especially the weapon/plasmid change part), so it's normal you weren't expecting anything ''better'' from it.

But really, you'd play this game with the D-Pad? o_O

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Im downloading now, I wonder if it was over rated because it WAS a 360 Exclusive. We'll see

I played the game on PC when it came out. Definitelly worth a rent on PS3 for those that haven't played it.
I personally don't see any graphical differences compared to the PC version and quite frankly the game was never a graphical showcase (was it?). Anyway, there are meny PS3 games that look and play much better, so graphics are not one of its selling points.
What's interesting about this game is the atmosphere they created, they made the city and its story seem almost believable. The production values could have been so much better though.

I had it on PC, enjoyed it but wasn't blown away by it. I may rent the PS3 version just for the extra stuff if I have a weekend sometime.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

No, the game was pretty good when it came out. The storytelling is great, albeit the story isn't amazing. A lot of cool things you can customize.

Some people thought it was super scary, and I can't really see that after playing a game like Condemned.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I have played it ...it has a great atmosphere and good shader effects. The graphics are very good and the sound too.The playability seems to have lot of possibilities. Its not 2007 ,but I think this game still scores high.

About the complaints of the OP ...I didnt see any frame rate drops. You only get 3 weapons in the whole demo so it doesnt bother not seeing wich weapon comes next when changing ....it could be a problem if you end up having 10-15.The D-Pad has some use ,though ...didnt use it in the demo at all but I checked the controls in the pause screen and there were things assigned to those buttons.

I am thinking about buying the game ...it depends on the price.40 euros would make me buy it ...50 I would think it ...60 or 70 I will wait for a price drop.

what about the weapon change guys ? if you keep R1 pressed the weapon menu pops in....
