The original adopters(those who bought it at launch) knew what they were doing. They were aware of the fact that they could get it at a later date after a price drop had occured, but they were willing to pay the full price to get it when it was first available. Seriously, you can make that argument about any system. Imagine the people who bought the X-box and Gamecube at launch, especially those in Europe. |
hmmm... ya see, this is where I disagree with most people.
As an early adopter you understand what the company tells you. In this case there were TWO models of the PS3 and I opted for the premium one. At this juncture, one would assume that the PREMIUM model, would remian the same for at least a certain amount of time, price drop not withstanding. It's gonna drop in price. Everything does...BUT
Now the PREMIUM model has changed... not the price. And it will so again apparently. Who is to say that this 80GB model won't change into some sort of wacky Elite model down the road.
I think the main problem is , who does this after 8 months of release (in the history of videogames) ? How many more iterations of the PS3 will there be?
When someone bought a PS2, gamecube or Xbox... the systems stayed the same... and it was good. Their looks were revised over time, but the system remained the same. Now, we are at a road, where the guts have changed, the memory has changed, the internt capabilities are changed, the backward compatability has changed, the pricing has changed (is it a sale?, or a price cut?, or a reduction of inventory..???? Who knows??)
The whole thing is lame. Make one damn SKU. Stop sticking your foot in your mouth.
