This rumor does sound pretty stupid, considering the 80gb is the mass produced unit and a 40gb HD is only slightly sheaper than an 80gb. Personally I don't give a shit about BC with PS1 games, though i know some do.... I mean I've got a copy of FFVII, but I tried playing it recently abd it felt tedious, not fun like it was when it came out.
Hopefully FFXIII does not get that delayed though.
I bet this rumor is from quarterman, except he is with EGM
On another note, I've never seen the usefulness of the card readers, especially when they leave out the PS memory card port.

No hard drive is just a bad idea to begin with. Especially when they're trying to push things like DLC and such, not to mention the firmware and game updates. As for the rumor itself, I find it kind of funny. If they would want to have a cheap system sans some features on the market, I think the 20gig was perfect for that. Not only could you replace the hard drive if you ran out of space, but you can also get around the lack of memory card slots by transfering things via your USB flash drive from your PC. Then, coupled with the things they've implemented to cut costs such as the laser diodes, Emotion Engine, and other improvements to the hardware (ex, 65nm CPU), it would be perfect for a low cost unit without all the other features. |
i dont really want ps3's on the market with no HDD's i was just stating how its bad to keep coming out with different sku's.. trust me i've heard people say that with the 360 and ps3 alot.. "well whats the difference between the core and the premium.. does it play all the games or just some?" Ive heard people ask dumb questions like that all the time.. all these different models confuse people especially the casual..

40GB could just be to differentiate from the 60GB and 80GB, no matter which hard drive is cheaper. Would be nice if there was a $400 PS3 without wifi, card readers, chrome, and whatever else they can take out without losing full functionality out of the box.
FF13 being delayed any amount of time is sad.
Are these PS3 achievements in addition to trophies? Would be fine with ripping off that system.

I'm not suggesting a thing about the game, it's just been a known thing that it is going to released in Japan at the earliest mid to end of 08' and it will take a good while longer to get it localized.

You know what's ironic about that? That was pretty much the 20gig version, lol.
Didn't they say they stopped producing it because it wasn't as selling as well as the 60gig?

they have stated numerous times that an achievement system is coming .. it wont be exactly like the beloved 360 system probably similar though... LINK its halfway through the video.. home and trophies are just a small part of an achievement system in the works.. .. plus ps3 will have trophies to showcase in HOME

I thought the trophies was going to be the achievement system. (or something like it).
Eh, whatever works since apparently people will play just about every 360 game just to get achievement points so I guess that'll help as they get more and more games on the PS3, lol.
