Forums - Gaming - Beat or played any classics/oldies lately?

I'm not sure how many classic/legacy/retro gamers(or whatever you want to call it) there are here, but I guess this is a good way to find out.  So what is the last classic era game that you beat or recently played? By classic era, I mean anything up to the N64/PlayStation/Saturn system games. It can be something you play on your NES or Genesis, a VC or XBL classic download, or an old school that you played on a compilation disc like Midway Arcade Treasures.

I saw a similar topic on another forum earlier and really enjoyed hearing what oldies people had been playing and beating.  So I guess I'll get the ball rolling...

Earlier this morning I picked up Might Final Fight for the NES, after not having played it for some months. The previous few times that I had played it I was never able to get to the final boss. Amazingly enough, on my first game today I went all the way through the game with Hagar without having to continue. I'm always amazed at how I'll get stuck in a game, set it down for a while, then come back and have a relatively easy time getting through that tough spot. Just one of those things I guess. I also finished Startropics 2 and TMNT3 about a month ago, both for the first time.

What about you guys and gals? Finished or working on finishing any classic games lately?

I am currently playing Mario Tennis on the N64. I never did beat all the star tournaments, so I figure now is a good time to do it. Also, Mario Tennis == teh best game in existence.

FINALLY conquered Crystalis for the NES. That game is really hard :/

Im currently playing Diablo I (PC tough) and Dr Mario and Ducktales II for nes

Cool deal guys.

Mario Tennis is a real fun game, but not one I've had the chance to spend much time on. Me and my bro played this some months ago and I had a good time, but haven't got him to bring it over since then.

I've always wanted to get Crystalis, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I know plenty of people hold that game in high regard on another forum I frequent, so there's got to be something to it.

Dr Mario is fun, but my wife tends to dig it more than I do. About Ducktales(what a great toon), that's another I've always wanted to play but never have. I guess I will consider 2 after I finally get my hands on the first one. :)

Well my friends and I had a LAN party Saturday night/Sunday morning...we played lots of PC Source games, Gears of War, and lots of XBLA games.

We get absorbed with Joust sometimes, as well as Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat hehe.

Then we played Aegis Wing on hard with four players...I hadn't played that before...that game rocks! I love old-school type space shooters.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Old school shooters do kick some serious butt. I was playing some R-Type on the VC just the other day. I love it, but am not too good at it yet.

Joust: great

SFII: earth shattering

Mortal Kombat: ummm...SFII is earth shattering? Just kidding. I'm just not a big MK fan, it's still fun to mess around with from time to time though. One thing I do love about the old MK games is the voice work. Brings me back to the 16 bit days and times when I really did enjoy MK for a while.

I spent some time yesterday playing a bit of Metal Gear 2. I've also been playing some of my old PS1 games again as well. Games like Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3, and Metal Gear Solid. If somebody I knew didn't steal Jet Moto 2 from me I'd still be playing that.

I'm not a huge MK fan...it's just fun to mess around with.
