Very unlikely. Microsoft would introduce a new drive in 2011/12 in their next console.

Why BR, why not hd-dvd? They dont need it to play BR movie's, it just has to have more space for games. They could always go the down-loadable route for movies.

It would also help prevent game piracy. As BR grows as platform so will its piracy. If they use hd-dvd it wont be as common place and harder to pirate.

Microsoft still has to pay DVD royalties, the difference between DVD and Blu Ray royalties per disc is less than a dollar.

M$ next console will not be any form of Disc. Disc is an old tech. Why take a step backward? It will most likely be SD type cards and downloads. Probably a 750gb - 1Tb HDD. If I have to put up with discs for another generation I will be extremely disappointed that we have to use the slow old tech. The only form of disc in my house is 360 games. Everything else is SD and HDD. Streaming from my 750gb HDD PC is a godsend. Die DISCS DIE!.

I think that yeah next gen will probably see every console use a variant of Blu Ray and this will be primarily because of costs! If it proves too expensive then MS and Nintendo can still go proprietary! Still you may be right about a slight cost advantage to Sony but it it will likely mean squat!

The original X-box remote control (which was compulsory to watch movies) practically absorbed the fee to the DVD consortium so there are ways to negate the advantage!

Am I the only one who thinks the next xbox will be a lot more then just a gaming console?

DVR, Motion Controller, PC (Ability to install windows/office/play certain PC games), with a couple of slots for multiple internal HDD's, with the release of a handheld gaming device (ie: PSP) that will connect together, etc?

i guess im a bit crazy

blu ray is not selling well so M$ will buy drives at a low cost. Plus blu ray will be a foot note because of down loadable content
