Those two things together mean he's expecting the PS3 to have sold definitely more than 3.6 million units in USA by the end of the year (total cumulative sales). And that's ignoring the 80 GB sales, and the sales after the first price cut. I know it's Pachter, but what do you guys think about that number?

He didn't necessarily say all the 60 gb models will be sold out this year, early 2008 could be anywhere in the first 4 months.

Nope, read again. He said that the 80 GB will get cut to $499 after the 60 GBs sell out, and also that it will get cut to $399 by early 2008. He predicted two price cuts. He said:

"Once these units are sold through, we expect the company to lower the price of its 80GB model to USD 499 on a standalone basis."

"We expect the USD 499 price cut to be maintained until early next year, when the 80GB model will likely be cut again to USD 399,"

Which implies that the first price cut will happen this year, which implies the 60 GBs will get sold this year.

By making conflicting predictions, he's demonstrated that he doesn't have a clear picture of this console war. He probably doesn't give a crap...

Pachter - owned again.

Can people PLEASE stop quoting Patcher?! He's not an analyst. he's a guesser! "Microsoft will drop prices on all SKUs at E3." Oops. That's just the most recent example.

That said, at least he figured out that it's logical for Sony to drop the priec of the 80GB after the 60GB sold out, unlike many on this forum who only wait for official Sony announcements when it benefits them.
