About the rating system thats sad, like I said we dont mind kids playing violent videogames here even how gory it was so the games are really restricted depending on the rating system? I mean Im playing RE: UC and I dont seen any content there that could harm the kids why rated Mature? THAT SUCKS...

As others might have mentioned there are M rated games on the way; Disaster, Fatal Frame 4 and MadWorld are some of the more noteworthy games.

Out of curiosity I was looking at the ESRB site to see what number of M rated games each Nintendo console has.

NES 0

SNES 6

N64 25(they list Eternal Darkness here, it's a mistake)

GameCube 47

Wii 19(one is a VC game)

Since the ESRB was formed in 1994 many games for the NES and SNES probably haven't received ratings.

Rating (while legally enforcible) is rarely enforced by retails, with the exception of selling porn to minor, it is VERY unlikely that you will be refused sale on any game or movie from a retailer, most clerk at your local Target probably don't even look at them. Then again I haven't really been under the legally limiting age for a great long time now so maybe there are tighter security. In either case it doesn't matter as it doesn't apply to me.

The issue with MA15+ being the highest rating is that there is no 17+ 18+ equivilant like in the UK EU or US.

A controversial call by the OFLC recently had been the temp canning of Fallout due to the use of the word morphine in game as a usable drug. This was on most gamesite news and pissed off a lot of fans until Beth decided to change the name and reapply for a MA15+ rating and got through.

I won't refute the fact that the rating system can be extremely stupid,.

But my point stand, the themes that appeals to me the most in games and movies tend to generally fall under the M and over rating or its equilivant in most western country.

And its happening here too in the Philippines, infact most of the customers of videogames here are teens and kids and most of the time what theyre buying here are games like God of War series, Grand Theft Auto series, Devil May Cry series, Resident Evil 4, etc... Theyre not buying casual games and kiddy games like Dora or Spongebob UNLESS theyre toddlers

And I forgot, I think the Mature rating really depends on how you interpret it, its not what ESRB rating tells you to because the ESRB rating itself was false. I still cant believe RE: Umbrella Chronicles was rated Mature. Who do the ESRB guys teens are? Children? Teens arent children theyre not innocent as they think they are.

And about the topic, I think games being mature really what gamers interpret as being mature, which means anything even no violence cutesy graphics game like Zack and Wiki can be mature. I mean, how can a game be mature if what you've heard on Halo 3 xbox live "so I knew are" 13 year old kids? :/

The OP never stated that all M rated games are good, he just likes games that have gore, violence , blood, etc.

What Im saying was ANY GAME can be mature it depends on your interpretaion, since the ESRB is flaw anyway, and its false. I think ESRB rate a game depends on how popular or controversial the game is.

Have anyone seen  Manhunt the original PS2 exclusive one? Yeah, its gory yeah its violent yeah its lots of blood but I've seen worse game than Manhunt and yet Manhunt 2 was censored even the executions was direct copy of the first one. Is it because Manhunt wasnt as popular as the sequel?

What makes a game mature?
This is not original ... but it really begs at the question, given the OP.

I think something well put together that flows well, makes sense, and is fun to play is a "mature" effort.

Many of the games sporting "M" ratings are rather sophomoric, if you look at them at their core. I mean after you have saved the earth once or shot the bad demons once, how many times can you do it again. (This refers to FPS sequels -- not the genre itself).

Mature has become a buzzword for sex and/or violence (particularly the latter in video games -- the former is most often considered AO). But that does not make it mature.

Thus, there is are lot of games for mature gamers on the Wii. Why else would it do sell well in retirement homes. Or why else would people who buy the system for their children then end up playing it themselves.
