Forums - Sales - Looks like the 360 price cut has had some effect

@ Docece, so what you are saying is that everyone wants a 360 after the pricecut, but because of the American economy, people aren't buying the 360, right? Now, I do agree that the American economy is affecting spending, but I think you are being a little too dramatic to excuse the relatively small increase of 360 sales after the pricecut.

He's not just referring to the 360, he's referring to the drop in sales across the board in the US this week. All hardware (both console and handheld) was down from the previous week's numbers.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

Well, that could be his intentions.  I was taking things from the standpoint of the thread topic.  Thanks.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

People need to realize that the economic conditions in the US particularly are going to change things. I am pretty well off, but I have even started changing my purchasing habits. For example last week I started bringing lunch to work rather than running out. My wife and I have already cut the budgets for kids presents this year in 1/2. We need to be cautious in this economy. We are not the only ones. Yesterday we went to an NFL game and spent about $20 total. We brought food with us and limited purchases at the game to sodas.

This morning consumer spending numbers for August were released and they werent pretty. This was all before the Financial crisis was revealed. I am certain that September numbers will be awful.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

the price cut had a positive effect, but nobody can honestly say that the weekly sales gap the 360 currently has over the ps3 will remain that large (or small), the cut effect is wearing off in all regions very slowly every week (looking at sales data will help prove this) and it could be back to square one again pretty soon.

i'd personally prefer it if sony did not react to the price cut, but if sales do hold up in favour of the 360 (which i doubt), then sony may be forced to react and cut their prices as well. which i think is a bad move right now. sales are pretty good for the ps3 with its price compared to the 360. if they could hold out until next year after the christmas storm, or even until a big exclusive is released next year. it would benefit them much more.

The single non-fanboy/spin post so far. Makes plenty of sense. For the most expensive console on the market, the PS3 is still selling well. And while 360 sales increased because of the pricedrop while having the intial cheapest hardware option, just a 30,000 WW difference over the PS3 and still underperforming the Wii is nothing to brag about. The way I see it is that the 360 should have been outselling the PS3 to begin with with a larger library of games and initially cheaper hardware out of the box. I'm not bashing the 360 here because the more units you sell the better while the 360 is a viable option. My point is that eventhough the pricedrop was a help, it didn't appear to be the threat that some had hoped to be to the PS3 and the Wii.

Gee, a sony fanboy calling another sony fanboy, non fanboy. How shocking.

Also funny how you two completely dismiss Banjo vs LBP. As if an unknown franchise on a smaller userbase and the most expensive platform is a slam dunk vs a somewhat known franchise on the cheapest platform and bigger userbase? You must have expensive crystal balls...

And bring up fucking Motorstorm 2 as some big savior? The first one "sold" because it was a launch title and was bundled through it's ass everywhere.

PGR3 sold tons on 360 too. It was a launch title. PGR4 however bombed horribly. I doubt there are more "fans" of Motorstorm than there were for PGR. Especially in todays crowded market.

It is still losing to Wii and that is what matters.

Since mods have recently started banning guys for sheer idiocy the uprising on sockpuppets has been noteworthy.
