Forums - Nintendo - Why a New DS makes sense

LOL gotcha right there Gnizmo you sly fanboy you XDD

the iphone does NOT offer any of that..sadly..

you cannot Edit and play with photos/music on an iPhone nor does it have two cameras..whatever that will be used for

so I have to turn it down

I thnink the camera is a little too much.gamers, like my self is not that interested by a camera on our handheld console.

Still if it does have a camera, it will take up lots of space. In that case, Nintendo will need it to invest largely on memory which more people are hoping for. Once DS2 has more advanced features then it can offically compete with PSP

I will absolutly buy this if it comes out

If the DS wants to be a media device then that camera, resolution, and music options (as I understand them) are not good at all. As a gaming device they are added feature that will mean very little to most gamers.

okay..let's look at it from a different point of view

the browser, music player and cameras are nowhere near the best
the graphical power isn't either, nor resolution nor screen size

....it simply cannot compete with iPhone and PSP...so DS loses..right?

go look at the sales..even thought the DS has the worse screen and a generic touchscreen and less buttons...does it mean it it's fighting the PSP for the same values?

it would lose in that case..would it not?...same goes for Wii..same for DSi

horrible camera, horrible mp3 player..horrible storage..yet it will sell greatly..

it's a recurring pattern that nobody wants to acknowledge

@ Gnizmo

But they are not the "exact" same functions. They offer other options the PSP and Iphone doesn't have.

@ kushal3337@wii

It's ok if you're not interested in the camera, because you're not the target anyway.

Four easy to understand reasons why DS beats PSP.

1. Brand Name - everyone knows what a gameboy is, everyone knows nintendo.

2. Price point

3. Games - way more games, tried and true game series, backwards compatibility.

4. Touch screen/dual screen - That blue ocean crap you guys keep talking about. I don't really care much for it myself, but thats mainly because touch screen mechanics don't go well with RPGs.

The DS also came out first and got traction.  Without a massive list of good games/games everyone wants the PSP could not break through.  The Wii beat the pants off of the X360 because the list above as well as the massive list of games, the library for the wii is dismal in terms of quality for 'core' gamers, but pick em up waste time games it has in spades. 4. being the wiimote.

I am not related to Malstrom, no. I just understand the principles of Blue Ocean and disruption fairly well.

Also, I was unaware that the iPhone offers the ability to mess with how music is played like that, and I'm sure many consumers are unaware of the fact as well. "Undisclosed features", ones that are not selling points, do not have a disruptive or Blue Ocean effect. Which is why a great deal of products fail to cause a disruption in a market, yet a nearly-identical product will cause the disruption a few months or years later.

I agree Sky render

@dharh

uhm...that's what I'm saying..the specs by itself do not define the value the consumers will give to the product..

thinking like Gnizmo leads me to completely different conclusions from actuality

kind of reminds me of certain analysts...

Ezimba doesn't exist now? Funny, it was the 3rd option in the iTunes store under photo options when I made the post. Maybe you should do your basic fact checking before calling me a liar? There were a couple of different music ons that offered a different idea but still revolved around messing with the music. Most of the apps were just ways to get internet radio, but if you really want me to I can dive through the store a bit more and find something that likely fits the bill. And who exactly do you think I am a fanboy of? I have a strong feeling that I will find the response histerical.

What on earth are you going on about? How does this relate at all to whether or not the new functions are a further push into the blue ocean strategy?

As for the rest of your posts directed at me, well i can''t think of much substantial to counter them with. You keep claiming I take you out of context, but you continue to fail to put any context to your statements. You say the DS lite is part of the blue ocean strategy because it is sleeker and slimmer and appeals to women. I point out that the PSP slim did the exact same thing. You say thats wrong and I should re-read the original post without ever explaining why the PSP getting the exact same kind of redesign the DS got is different. Your arguements are almost incoherent so I have no choice but to guess what you mean and respond accordingly. Present your arguement in full and I will do my best to respond in-context.

@Sky Render
Fair point I admit. The photo editing goes hand in hand with Apple in my mind which is why I quickly jumped to it. The app to do it was free and easily noticeable in the app store. I will concede it might not be as widely known about, but I would say that it will only really appeal to people who want to play with gadgets. The gadgety market and technophile market are nearly identicle if they are not currently. We are getting into finer points that we may have to agree to disagree on though due to our general lack of ability to get demographics spreads for various markets.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

hehe Gnizmo..like I said

*shakes head* you took it out of context yet again ^_^

I already explained: for PSP already being an incumbent..for adopting red ocean values..it is by default not blue ocean..meaning a slimmer version is not part of the blue ocean startegy, thus not having any impact as a blue ocean move

I guess you missed that part

as for whatever the heck iPhone has..it was as expected..not a major selling point..it was something you COULD get

wich means most distant consumers won't bother looking it up..

as for my other post..showing it's not red ocean practically proves you wrong:
it's NOT competing with the rest

I'm done for today though..there are enough ignorant fools in real life and the internet

once the DSi takes off..you'll claim people are stupid..and that mostly old DS owners are actually buying the DSi?

that's the only conclusion I can come up with..since it doesn't appeal to the distant customer..it means..it will either not appeal at all or only to the core customers

but as we can clearly see: the current customers don't care much for the DSi

so what is it now Gnizmo?

>_> (about the fanboy thing, I was just playing around..if you didn't notice)
