Forums - General - So who won the debate?

... in your opinion? I am pretty tired an took minimal notes while watching, but my impression is that it was a tie. I recorded it so I will watch it again more carefully tommorow. Both Obama and McCain dodged the economy. Both had some stupid ideas McCain- freeze ALL spending? refuse to meet with world leaders unless they give in to our demands? Obama- rachet up spending a gigantic amount right as a depression starts? Sure, we can spend our way out of a recesion- not! Pull out of Iraq- helps with finances, decreases stability of the region.  Immidiatly invade Pakistan? WHAT?

They both also nailed each other a couple times and both had some ideas I agreed with.

A tie is really a victory for Barack; McCain is slipping in the polls, and the best way to come back would be to demolish Obama in the debates and come off much more proffesional and prepared than Obama. This did not happen. They seem equally prepared, and Obama for the first time I have ever seen seemed to have more substance than style.

I believe www.factcheck.org will sway people towards Obama.

McCain won because he was on the offensive the majority of the time and finished the strongest.

I doubt it. Most people will watch the debate, listen to what Biden and Guiliani had to say, listen to the 5 minute analysis, then turn off TV go to bed, and then over the next week discuss with their friends. Young tech savy people who it would accure to use factcheck.org are typcially liberal anyway.

Um Obama because he was saying the kinds of things I wanted someone to say? Like lets say stressing the need to lessen the poverty gap and also bringing up the whole whatever happened to Afghanistan/Bin Laden thing.

McCain had better style. May be thats what counts. I am persoally sick of Obama always being about style, so I was glad to see some substance. McCain's joke about negotiating with terrorists and his ending about "I love the veterans, I know the Veterans, and I will take care of them" worked out fantastic. On issues he wasn't always on top; his " I will make them famous and you will know their names" line fell flat, and Obama ripped apart his earmark argument, but then got countered and that part ended in a draw. Hmmm... I guess McCain DID win.

I think Obama won when it came to discussing issues, but not by a whole lot.

Ickalanda is right that McCain won when it came to style though. I consider this a draw. However, most voters are idiots and choose style over substance (thats what got Obama picked over Hillary).  Dick Devos vs Granholm in Michigan for governor, Devos was on the right side of every issue, but Granholm absolutly TROUNCED Devos when it came to style. Granholm won by quite a margin.
