Forums - Gaming - still not good to like nintendo! playstation brand still strong!

Good job they have their brand name cuz they couldn't sell what they produce on it's quality!

PS brand is still strong...in the PS2. Whenever someone asks about the PS3 price here, they are inmediatly turned off. Sony abussed of the brand power they got, exactly like Nintendo did.

I recently noticed the opposite actually, that there honestly is a greater shift towards the public liking Nintendo again.  Obviously there are still 120mil PS2s and only 9mil Wiis so the Nintendo kiddy perception is not entirely gone.

But I just joined a new job and in the past I wouldn't really bring up that I owned a Gamecube too much because there would be so much scrutiny.  For some reason I brought up the Wii though and to my surprise almost everyone in the store was immediately like "Oooh, I love the Wii.  Wii Sports is so much fun!" ect.  With Nintendo being the butt of many a joke over the last few years, it was refreshing to be able to have a discussion about them with many people in a positive light.  These coworkers ranged from 14 - 30 and included males and females so it was a pretty good crossection.  I'm really happy to see Nintendo's image being turned around and hope they can keep it up.

Oh, also wanted to add that just give it time. What we as hardcore fans know of the industry doesn't leak down to the casual players for months if not years sometimes. In a few years if current trends continue Nintendo's image will basically be solid almost everywhere.

It doesnt matter ,according to Nintendo new approach there are a lot of kiddies ,girls ,grannies ,soccer moms and old time retirees that would be with you and against Sony .And as there are more of these than gamers you have a veryu big social body where you can find comfort from your bad experience of yesterday .

Honestly, when I hear about video games these days in the big bad outside world, Wii has been stealing alot of the spotlight, Playstation brand is still strong but it's losing it fast, alot of the attitudes here (AUS) are quite negative for the PS3, especially considering there are literally 6-7 games to chose from on the shelf and it cost so much, no-one here knows or gives a crap about Blu-ray, PS3's built in Blu-ray player is the only one available that I have ever seen, also ontop of that of course there are about 4 movies to chose from, once again only available in video games stores.

Curious then that after GFk it has been outselling the Wii since it was launched in your country .When there are some more games and movies on the shelves that will be madness !!

My nerdy college friends...some of them aren't super informed on videogames...but we've played the Wii a lot and the 360 too. I mention the PS3 to them, saying there's cool games like MGS4 and FFXIII, but most of them just say, isn't the PS3 selling like crap? Who cares...it may be cool, but not $600 cool.

I've met a few Wii haters, but I have yet to meet a PS3 lover in person...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Well, i got the worst case of Sony brainwashing today when an 8yr old kid I was entertaining was telling me how much fun he was having playing Super Mario on his playstation.. and nothing i said could convince him that it didn't come on playstation

They are brainwashed indeed. When I bought my DS and took it to class a guy told me "OMG! Is that the new double-screened PlayStation?! Sony sure knows how to make cool new stuff!".

Or when a friend of my mother saw me playing Wii Sports: "What PlayStation is that? My kid can't play like that with his!".

You can't imagine how many times I've had to say: "This is not a PlayStation. It's a video game console, made by Nintendo. Nintendo and Sony both make game consoles. All PlayStations are consoles, but not all consoles are PlayStations".

 Sigh...

it's funny because it's the opposite for me.  my sister had a super nintendo since i was one so my mom always calls all video game consoles nintendo.

Never argue with an idiot.  They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What do you expect, gaming was was for kids untill sony entered gaming and changed all that. They are still given the credit for it. Looking at 1st party software, i don't see how nintendo has taken that away form them.

They still have a past fanbase of 120 million PS2 owners, they have not disspaeared as some would like to believe.

I disagree, I would say gaming was for nerds until Sony came aroud. Before it was like "dweeb, get off the court and go play Nintendo". Then Sony came out and with huge sports games and GTA gaming was "cool". Sony targeted this "mature" audiance of teens who wanted to be cool and be video game players. Naturally, this evolved into Sony making games for most teens and college kids while Nintendo was bought by parents for their kids since it was less violent and the adults all knew the brand name.

And yea like ugg said, most adults I talk to refer to any gaming system as a "Nintendo".
