You don't hurt your allies like Proximity mines, (or rather... you hurt more then just them if need be.)
though it does require you to stay closer.
Intellegent use provides you with a win before the battle even starts.

No way, same here. I use to love using those things. Whenever I would turn on the gun cheat, that was the gun I always used. Since you could only get it on the Frigate.
