Forums - Sony - Please Sony...

Why would Sony buy a company like Level 5? They're a pretty big company and I don't think they'll want to buy them, or any company for that matter. Why? Well, why haven't they bought other companies? Simply because the companies are way too big to be bought, so cost a lot of money they could use to make other games. It's not like buying some studios. And even then companies like Sony/MS/Nintendo don't bother with "big" significant studios.

They make a lot games for Sony anyway...so there's no point really. Games like Professor Layton/Inazuma/whatever not on Sony systems simply WOULD NOT work on Sony platforms and that's a reason they don't put those type of games on Sony systems.

Basically they put good stuff on Sony systems, and then also put innovative stuff on Nintendo systems which is good since Nintendo is big in innovation anyway.

Wasn't Zipper Interactive bigger than Level 5 currently is when Sony bought them.

I thought they were owned by SE... or something.

No, they just develop the Dragon Quest games for Square-Enix.

so what has level 5 acutally made?

SE contracted them out to develop Dragon Quest VIII and IX, but that's the extent of their relationship.

They are fully independent, though the majority of their games were paid for and published by Sony.  Dark Cloud 1/2, Rogue Galaxy, Jeanne D'Arc, and White Knight Chronicles are all Sony IPs.

Though I suppose with the recent PSP and DS announcements, assuming the PSP games aren't being paid for by Sony, then I guess they now publish the majority of their own games. Prior to Inazuma Eleven and Prof. Layton, they hadn't published published a thing themselves.  And even Layton was published by Nintendo outside of Japan.

Is Level-5 receptive of being bought? Thats the question you should ask before you ask why Sony hasn't purchased them, whats the point of buying a studio if all its talent decides to leave? Sony has stated their policy in interviews before.

Yeah, Level 5 seems a lot like Insomniac to me.  They want to maintain their independence, but they don't mind making games funded by Sony, lol.
