Forums - General - 0^0, what is it? Another maths topic!

This is one that has often confused me, what does 0^0 equal?

Around the Network

Anything to the 0 power is 1....isn't it ???? :?

^_^

Can you divide by zero?

No.

The answer is undefinded.

Let's use the basic rule for Zero Exponentation.

3^0 is equal to saying 3^2/3^2. Exopential division allows subtractions of exopents with equal bases. 3^2/3^2 = 3^2-2. 3^0. 3^2=9. 9/9=1, which makes 3^0 equal 1.

With zero, you are not allowed to use this rule. It would result in division by zero.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Undefined. It is one of seven different "undefined" expressions (the most well-known of them being 0/0).

You'll learn when you take calculus.

EDIT: I'm not interested in delving deeper, but in case you're interested, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undefined

Zero

I do take calculus Xeta, so far I have done three university papers on it.

However I'm fairly sure that under some situations 0^0 is not undefined but 1, I just can never figure out what situations or why.

Basically what it boils down to is can 0 be divided by 0?

Well, if you're testing the community, you shouldn't mention that you're confused by it. If you're not and genuinely want an answer, you should have detailed the specifics you were looking for in your OP. But if you're looking for a genuine answer about something like this, I don't think a video game forum is the best place to go to. :P

All you'll do is confuse most of the people here. It could have a negative influence on their education process. :P

Having said that, sorry anyways for assuming you were not familiar with the subject.
