This is the exact situation that gave the Communists popularity in China after the long march and what has successfully delivered them the country on a platter.
During WWII they said 'We must unite, and repel the Japanese, they are our greatest enemy' Chinese people were like 'whoa' and all 'the communists care more about us than the nationalists!'.
70% of the people on cnn.com is like 70% of intelligent, or at least trying to be intelligent, people thinking it is a ploy.

You're correct in saying that the bail-out will probably not fix anything because there are much deeper problems with how the US ecconomy has been handled ... At the same time, the bail out will probably dramatically improve all of the markets in the short run and on election day the Bail-out may look like it solved the problem.

In related news, McCain has started wearing a crown and a robe and claiming he is the King of Congress and will save the economy with a magical bill by the time we vote.
I really love Obama's strategy of telling McCain the president has to deal with many problems at once, and doesn't get to suspend his presidency and reschedule.
