Forums - General - I love it when music is used inappropriately in advertising

The latest offender? The NFL Network when it used part of the chorus of "Everyday is Like Sunday" by Morrissey. I cannot take that commercial seriously when the entire lyrics to the song are the following:

Trudging slowly over wet sand
Back to the bench where your clothes were stolen
This is the coastal town
That they forgot to close down
Armageddon - come armageddon!
Come, armageddon! come!

Everyday is like sunday
Everyday is silent and grey

Hide on the promenade
Etch a postcard :
How I dearly wish I was not here
In the seaside town
...that they forgot to bomb
Come, come, come - nuclear bomb

Everyday is like sunday
Everyday is silent and grey

Trudging back over pebbles and sand
And a strange dust lands on your hands
(and on your face...)
(on your face ...)
(on your face ...)
(on your face ...)

Everyday is like sunday
Win yourself a cheap tray
Share some greased tea with me
Everyday is silent and grey

Yay, football.

Sure the NFL wasn't very smart, but maybe the artist should have explained to them the meaning of the song before signing the licensing.

It reminds me of how Reagan wanted to use "Born in America" as his campaign song but Springstein told him that the song wasn't what he thought it was and thus refused.

Isn't this how most advertisements work? They just take from the song what is relevant and cut the rest. It's not like there's a huge back catalog of legitimate songs that actually have to do with football for them to work with.

If that was meant to be so bad that it swooped back all the way to awesome, it succeeded.

If it was meant as anything else, huge fail.

I'm not entirely sure but I remember it being on a TV show about adverts from around the world that seemed completely random! But yeah, it's pretty awesome for a yoghurt advert

So, this wasn't about the PS3 launch in Malaysia. Damn.
