Forums - Nintendo - GTA: Chinatown Wars too "violent" for Wii?

I have yet to have a chance to read this interview, but a few things come to mind.

First of all, an advance copy means that getting one in the mail via subscription 8*>

More to the point though, is that there is so much lead time in a publication such as this, the quotes of a couple of weeks ago or so talking about the possibility of a GTA Wii (or leaving it more open-ended of a possibility), may very well be more recent. However, a lot of people will probably cite this (especially since the copy of Nintendo Power is dated November 2008) as the current perspective.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Horrible thread title as it doesn't relate to the issue at all.

"It can't be softened to make it family-friendly--that's not the game we're making...[Nintendo] didn't want us to make a GTA for kids, and we weren't interested in making a game we wouldn't normally make."

Well there goes the idea that Nintendo only wants kid-friendly games.

So no, its not too "violent" for the Wii.

It's title is "GTA courting M on DS, didn't fit with Wii." It wasn't until I reread the title that I knew what they were talking about because the two kind of ran together when i read it. So yeah...my mistake.

At least you see the problem now so it's all good.

You'd also be doing youself a tremendous favor if you never saw the web site known as Gamespot ever again.

Yeah. It's better than Gamepro but not by much. I think I'll stick with 1up. I rarely get wrong information from them.

I prefer GamesIndustry.biz and Gamespress personally.

I've been trying to figure out what Houser meant and my conclusion is he was speaking with regards to the game itself as in the style of game they had in mind worked better on DS than Wii.

When developing games, you approach the console decision by choosing the one that best fits what you are trying to do with the game and in this case the DS offered a better solution than the Wii.

I don't think he's trying to say the DS is a more natural fit than Wii for "any" GTA game but for "that" GTA game.

I've already had my staff try and hit them up for clarification but no response yet.
