It will definantly be a battle the whole way and a very interesting one at that. But this is my opinion and obviously some will agree and a lot wont. So in 1 simple word.... YES

i think if they were to win they'd need 1) a price cut soon and 2) ppl to jus wake up one day and realize that wii is not that great and for them to stop buyin them lol

you do know Nintendo joined Sony in agreeing that 5 - 6 year life spans for a console is to short and jumped on a 10 year life cycle too. MIcrosoft is the only one who isnt on the 10 year life thing.

Um you have it backwards; if Sony is truely talking about extending gens, then they are agreeing with Nintendo's long standing policy; Nintendo has been complaining about gen changes since the start of gen 4. Also that Nintendo has always resisted gen changes and is often the last to launch.
Notice that even when Nintendo lost the previous gen (ie. is in the position most associated with wanting to launch early, they still try to drag out the gen)
If we look at historical trends then whomever is leader by now will still be the leader by this generation's end.
Having said that, anything is still possible.
But do I personally think the PS3 has a shot at 1st? No. It'll be a distant second (maybe 3rd) but both it and 360 will outsell last gen's 2nd and 3rd easily.
No i think it will finish behind the 360
