How are you connected to the net?   My friend gets that update screen pop up when we play and it is annoying as hell, I however, never get it.  I'm wired and he is wireless, I figured that was the reason, with the PS3 doing a background check every now and again and showing the update every time, even if not signed in.


Hey I'm using wireless as well. Maybe that's the reason. I think I'll try disabling the internet connection altogether if playing unpatched games - should help.
