Forums - Sony - VGChartz Playstation Trophy League

I say to just keep things the way they are. I think a majority of the games have perfect ratings right now, and there will always be people who will argue for a game to have a higher/lower rating anyways (even with the new proposed system).

How about:

PS3trophies.org rating - Our Rating
1-5 - 1
5-7 - 2
7-8 - 3
8-9 - 4
9-10 - 5

Bye bye easy games.

I also dont agree with some PS3Trophies ratings. On the whole they're not far off, but for certain individual games they rate pretty ridiculously; and I feel Arcturus' method now of taking the PS3T ratings and adding his own opinion as a sanity check is better.

Having said that, I am in favor of a 10 point system rather than a 5 point system. I feel on a 5 point scale, the difference between, say, an easier 3 and a harder 3 is too big.

Even though I only have 1 plat(and probably not much say), I would suggest that the rating be kept the same. The only way that I could see to changing the rating would be if a lot of people who have platted the game believe that the rating should be higher/lower and it is a general consensus and not just a couple people. No system will be perfect and if you do change it there will still be people that complain about the ratings.

No offence...but thats a horrible and unbalanced rating system....

On the contrary, balancing is exactly what it does.  It balances out the skewed opinions of people.

And by the way, your sig is too big.

It actually works rather well considering the 1 vote is isn't used enough.  Almost no game would ever be a 1 star otherwise.

But still, games like Uncharted 1/2, inFamous etc. shouldn't be 1/5.

@Fadetoone - every time I've seen you comment on a rating, you want it to be lower.  I think you're just too good for the rest of us. ;)

Maybe you are confusing me with KylieDog.

I do admit commenting on some being low-ish recently like Heavy Rain and God of War 3, but those were in discussions regarding the short time to plat being averaged in with difficulty instead of stacked.

Thanks everyone for your comments so far. Lots of interesting feedback so far.

@Dark Odin: The ranges can be always be adjusted from the original ones I suggested in my example. Although, creating ranges that everyone can agree on my be tricky. By the way, it we were to follow your ranges, only one game, Fight Night 4 (see Miguel's post) would fall under a 5 star rating. The rest, like Wipeout HD and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 would fall under 4.5 stars.

@KylieDog: Yes, that's a problem with soley relying on the user ratings at ps3trophies.org. There are a some idiots who will vote a very easy game as a 10, and a very difficult game as a 1. For games that should obviously be rated low, or games that should be rated high, I can easily ignore the votes that indicate the complete opposite. In fact, I've done this for the Hannah Montana game. Out of 135 votes, 17 people have rated it a 10 in difficulty. If I were to count these votes, it would bring the average to approx 2.5. By ignoring these 'junk' votes, the average drops to 1.5. Ignoring junk votes is easy when the game is either very easy or very hard, but when it comes to games inbetween, it's more difficult to ignore votes on either extreme. Coming up with a method for ignoring 'junk' votes, like the one you suggested, may be difficult.

@Ail: Yep, you're right. The original intention of the rating system was to discourage people from only platting easy games, and reward people for platting difficult/time consuming games.

@Miguel: Thanks for providing all of those scores. Looking forward to your input.

@Tbone: Thanks for your comment. People seem split on whether or not we should stick with a 5 point scale, or start using a 10 point scale.

@HideoK: Someone creating multiple accounts at ps3trophies.org to vote is a significant concern I have, especially for games that have a rating that sit just below the the range boundary. In a perfect world, we wouldn't be limited to a simple forum.

@GodOfWar_3ever: Thanks for your input.

@MasterVG71782: Thanks for commenting. You bring up a good point, people will most likely continue to argue out a game's rating even if we move to the new system, but instead of arguing about the actual rating, there would be arguing about the method for obtaining that rating (not agreeing with the ranges, to many junk votes, etc)

@fadetoone: That's not too bad of a range set. Although, I don't think I would make the 1 star range that great, maybe 1-4 ? :) I welcome any other comments about the ranges being adjusted.

@chenguo4: Thanks for your input. Others have also mentioned that they agree with some or most ratings at ps3trophies.org, but that there are also a few that they do not agree with.

@agardini51: Thanks for your comments. "The only way that I could see to changing the rating would be if a lot of people who have platted the game believe that the rating should be higher/lower and it is a general consensus and not just a couple people." That's more or less how it's currently done. "No system will be perfect and if you do change it there will still be people that complain about the ratings." That's how it's looking as far.

Sorry if I missed anyone.
