Forums - PC - I FINALLY upgraded my PC...

Oh...Australian Dollars...well now I have no clue if that was a good deal or not.

And in my experience it's better to have lower res and more features like textures and AA (though I hardly use AA because of the strain it puts on my system) than to have high resolution and lower textures.

It might be a matter of opinion though.  On LCD screens anything but the standard resolution (1680x1050 for 22s) can look a little worse and of course text and such will appear too large...and it'll take quite a system to handle a 24" monitor and still crank the graphics up...your new PC will be able to do that though...maybe just without AA in some games, because AA is the thing that makes PCs chug the most.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I only bought the PSU cause my brother said so, he had some reason for it at the time...
Oh and all my prices were in Australian Dollars.

Is it better to have higher res and less AA and AF, and possibly other settings turned down?

it matters if you like things to look smaller on you screen. if you have a higher res then the items on the screen appear smaller. it also matters if you care about ultra high graphics.

How much better/faster is 'cas' 4 than 'cas' 5 ram?

I don't know if that question makes sense!

5-5-5-18 = 'Cas' 5.

My brother said i should get 'cas' 4 but i couldn't find any in the computer stores near me, so i got 'cas' 5.

I always look for a woman who has a tattoo. I see a woman with a tattoo, and I’m thinking, okay, here’s a gal who’s capable of making a decision she’ll regret in the future.

I dont think that will make a difference. The biggest difference is the ddr ( such as ddr, ddr2, ddr3, then it is the speed such as (333 400) and then the cas. it shouldn't make a big difference.

Wow, I just built mine a few months ago, almost exact same as yours.

Should i sell my Asus 8800gtx and replace it with a saphire 4850?
Is the extra performance worth the hassle? The reason i ask is my mate just got a 4850 and reckons its better than mine...

How much can you sell it for, because your card is still good.

A 4850 is better, but not by a ton, you're good with your 8800. A 4870 would be a more significant upgrade, but that'll cost you more.

I'm not sure what i can sell my 8800gtx for, but i doubt it would cost much more than $50 to upgrade!!

I you can get it within $15 then get otherwise try snagging a 4870, which is worth the upgrade for $50 - $70. If you cant then keep your card, yours is still really good, and it can almost (crysis) play every game out maxed.
