This is a video where Mark Rein from Epic is being interviewed about Unreal Tournament 3's "exclusiveness" to the PS3 AND PC platform this November. He has some great things to say about the PS3 and the openness of the Playstation Network. I'll transcribe some quotes for your entertainment, in case you don't feel like watching the entire thing:

Ricardo Torres (RT) Editorial Director, Gamespot: We're here to talk to you about a little announcement Sony just made about Unreal ... Playstation 3 ... an exclusive ... what?
Mark Rein (MR): Yeah, Unreal Tournament 3 is coming exclusively to Playstation 3 and the PC this November.
RT: Alright, so tell us about what you guys are doing with the hardware, and what we can look forward to when we play it.
MR: Well, UT3 is going to use, you know, as much of the power of the Playstation 3 as we can, and as you can see, it looks really great, and it plays beautifully now, and there's still a couple months left of development to go, so we're really excited about being able to tap the power of this machine. The interesting thing here is if you look at this build here, and compare it to where we were last year with Gears of War, we're actually a little further ahead. In other words, UT3 is probably running better today on PS3 than Gears of War did last year on 360.

MR: Playstation 3 is the only home console that's gonna let us bring mods, you know, user created content directly to Playstation 3. You can buy the PC Version of UT3, use the Unreal Engine 3 tools that come with it, create mods, and bring them over to your Playstation 3.

That exclusive deal with Epic to bulk up the Unreal Engine for the PS3 must be paying off big time.

This would be a great time to cite when the developers stated that Gears can only be done on the 360 and that fans were quick to say that the PS3 couldn't get anything close to Gears. However, developers and executives from both sides say that so that kind of nullifies that a little bit.

That said, I guess that helps shoot claims that nothing is possible (or is very inferior) on the PS3 out of the water.

Let's think about that one. It's been announced that the game will be exclusive to the PS3 and PC (at least for the time being), which may or may not be part of that deal made with Sony. So, even if there is a 360 version in the works, they probably aren't allowed to talk about it.

Of course, there has been some info on the 360 version in the past. . . so who really knows.

Actually, he mentions that UT3 will come to the 360 sometime next year in the video. I don't think there is any hate there, it's not like he goes off saying Microsoft shafted them.

I have a problem believing ANY developer who says "This can't be done on [insert console name here]."

The statement is true, in that no matter what they do, they HAVE to change SOMETHING in the game to make it run on another platform. So, technically, in it's current state, it could not be run on any other platform ... unless they changed it. It's PR speak. 

Epic got a good taste of how Ms operates, they are just branching out making sure they aren't dependent on anyone.

I Watched a vid with Mark Rein at E3 and he said 360 version some time in 08

I would hope they make some progress with a year more development time, hardware issues aside.

ut3 is only possible on ps3 and pc. 360 got nothing but bad disc capasity and a shitty chipset.

gears was garbage compared to motorstorm and soon lair.

im not too familiar with Unreal tournament are Mods really that important for the experience??? do people really take advantage of that like mark talks about?? if so that is sweet
