Funny you should ask, because a new game was released yesterday:

I haven't bought it but I plan on it...I could play through Freespace 2 again, but I can't get the files to work on my PC for some reason.

Files ??? Does the installation not work or won´t the game start after instal ??? I never had a problem with this game and I remember playing it again a year ago...

Just like the point-and-click adventure genre all but died, the space and flight sim genre died when FPSs took over. There's occasional games for any genre, but the move from epic scifis to more gritty movies surely didn't help.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Well, I lost my disc...

And I downloaded the open source project, where people improve the graphics, dialogue, etc...it worked fine at one time, I get errors for some missing files or something now though.

Freespace 2's open source project would appear to suit your needs quite nicely.

If you're looking for Freespace or Freespace 2 or similar and/or already have them but can't get them to run there is a website called Good old games: www.gog.com where you can legally buy and download updated versions of old games like Freespace that have been updated where necessary to be compatible with XP and Vista.

The site is discussed here if you're interested: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=36763&start=0

"Watchmen" is far better than The Dark Knight / Why does no-one own this wonderful game: Fragile Allegiance? / Speak (Type) Italian to me!

I have recently got a game named Space Interceptor. Its not the longest game but is fun. You can download a free to try download from here.

Ignore the picture as the game looks better than this.

Supposedly, David Braben and his company (Frontier something... they just released a WiiWare game called "Lost Winds" that was pretty good) are making "Elite 4" right now.

What platform they're making it for... well I have no idea. Probably PC.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.  The game looks really cool.  I can't believe I passed over the thread.  I've made a point to start reading and posting here in the PC forum more now since it's not as active as others.
