Forums - Nintendo - Malstrom: Why Wii Music is Genius

I still think Nintendo will make a visor, as Johnny Lee has shown, it would cost $2 in parts and would revolutionize graphics.  But since it's for single-player only, it could knock the vision of "Wii" as a "We" console, so maybe I'm wrong.

You missed the point. The idea is to play music.

No I didn't. Have any of you actually seen this crap in action? It sounds like hell and using a white wand with 3 buttons as a "saxophone" or japanese cymbal is not exactly an immersive experience. Because of that Guitar Hero, Rockband et al. will bring you "instruments" that let you actually play.

Go read the stuff before wii came out (I did). It's real funny. He has all these theories of how nintendo is 'genious'

Which is what makes him a good read.

Malstrom was the only journalist/blogger to successfully predict the console war before it started, and to give clear reasons why it would play out that way.  I'm sure a few people (like myself) thought Nintendo stood a chance to do well, but we certainly weren't brave enough to write about it - let alone predict the landslide sales.

Malstrom's prediction is why he's relevant, and will be for the rest of the 7th generation.

Rock band made me feel like a rock star. If this game feels like I'm just shaking a controller then it fails, but if it can actually create the feeling of you playing that instrument then it won't be that bad.

No Rol yet? Damn.

On topic: It was pretty good read. Sometimes i feel like Malstrom visits VGChartz forum and makes a news post about what we've discussed here.

Actually Sean malstrom as we knew now was really just a regular member of NeoGaf before, and he was banned because of his "theories", thats why he make articles when Gaf bashes his articles. Well thats what I believed, a member of GAF posted a member  who always posts on GAF similar to Malstrom then he is banned. I didnt pay attention what the username who is banned.  I even doubt Sean Malstrom was his real name.

He really didnt read vgchartz he always reads neogaf boards, after all, even IGN and GT sometimes get sources from GAF ;)

Malstrom was just a blogger, nothing else... Atleast his articles and blogs are entertaining just as like Seanbaby. I doubt he predict this E3, he says this year E3 will be a surprised to core gamers and casual gamers alike. We were wrong...

I will buy this game just because so many people hated it. Maybe I'll buy a dozen of them and hand them out for Christmas gift.

Great read. People really give Wii Music a bad rep when really it is quite a risk of a game. I mean it is looking in the face of the ever popular and peaking music genre in the gaming industry and saying hey we are going to go a different direction. It's very daring and sure it won't sell as much as GH: WT but its risky.

Some think of this as a cheap cash in but this is really a risky title on Ninty's part. Would have been much easier for them to just copy the setup of GH with wiimote controls for various songs but they've done something different. Instead now they have basically airing the songs and being able to create songs that way. It's a differnet approach that may pay off but who else but nintendo to have the ballz to do something else. Just like Wii Sports and Wii Fit before it, it dares to extend the boundaries of the gaming industry to more just mashing buttons or rescuing the princess. In many ways its just like LittleBigPlanet: where it pushes the boundaries of what we thought a game should be or play like.

No... the real genius of Wii Music is - they gave a bunch of trainee game developers a few thousand bucks to throw together a game in the frame of two months, slapped "Wii" infront of the title and will make enough money out of it to end world hunger.

I can't believe I didn't think of it before them.

This is Miyamoto's idea and it's been in development for 3 years....

3 years of development or 3 years of Miyamoto having the idea in his head?

There is teaser footage of Wii Music in this Nintendo Wii launch video dated September 2006:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/13082.html

After that, not much was seen until October 2007:

It's certainly older than 2 months...

madness! malstrom has hit it on the head! after reading the article i checked out some wii music vids and hes right about everything! Im hooked! I just hope I play the game more then I did wii fit!

The only problem i see is the negativity coming from people who get bored of non competitive games. I got wii fit hoping my wife and I could compete against each other in a muscle/weight/fitness battle but as soon as i started getting scores above what her attention span/competitive nature cared for the game got tucked under the couch...

...only to be brought out 105 days later to reveal that i lost 2.5kg!!! YES! I LOST MORE WEIGHT NOT PLAYING WII FIT THEN I DID WHEN I PLAYED!!! (I put on weight when i was playing it)
