That's really interesting, because I was reading SciAm a few months back and there was a study done on whether praying helps people recover from injuries and/or surgeries. If the patient didn't know he wass prayed for, there were no changes. If they did know they were getting prayed for they actually took longer to recover than the average. It's speculated that it's a psychological thing. If you see people praying for you then you start thinking "man I must be in bad shape if there's even people praying for me." So I don't know where your article came from but it does sound fishy, and in direct contradiction with the one from Scientific.

Also interesting as there was a report in February I read  that said the exact opposite thing, that people showed quicker recovery times with prayer. Most people see being prayed for as a sign of support and being loved, thus wanting to recover and be with their loved ones sooner.

Very interesting. I'll try to find my article, and you try to find yours and we can share notes when/if we both succeed.

It seems to be the only viabible option as to how we all got here... I have studied evolution extensively and I have come to the conclusion that it take more faith to beleive in Evolution and the big bang than it does to believe in God and creation. Also the Bible has never been proven wrong, people have discredited it, but have never had proof.

Example, in the middle ages people pointed to a passage in Job(might be psalms) to say the Bible is wrong, the passage refers to the earth being round and at that time "science" believed the world to be flat... then comes Gallileo.. and guess what, the world is round. There are others things to like the Bible referring to the blood as the source of life (it is) but until the 19th century science believed other wise (this the reason G. Washington was bled to death)

How could the writers of the bible know more about science than the leading scientist of the day.... without their being some supernatural influence (inspiration)

No offense man, but it was the religious people who believed the earth was flat and the scientists were burned at stake for debating against them. I think it was one of the ancient Greeks or Egyptians who proved geometrically that the Earth had to be round (or maybe that the Earth revolved around the Sun, not sure on which) by looking at shadows in a well. Whichever it was, it predated the Bible by a decent amount, and people were getting burned at stake for claiming otherwise up until the Reformation.

@Tombi

exactly. Also just like to add that millions of people around the world pray to win the lottery every week, and the chances that someone wins the lotterry who prayed for it are pretty high. This means that hundreds of people around the world who won the lottery ofter praying for it will have their beliefs in god "confirmed". This theory can be applied to many cases of unlikely healing or other sittuations.

I'd prefer a nicely outlined study on a neutral site. Not a summary on a site with prayig hands in the background.

But I can play your game too, here's a link to this:

I think there are links in there too, but I don't know if they work.

Here's one from the NYT:

Well, I doubt it was entirely Science who had some wrong beliefs. The huge amount of this stuff came from misinformation spreaded by the church. The church has been a strong opponent of science in history. The church strictly forbid Galileo to continue work on his discovery.

Well, of course you can now say that the church was shit, but the bible isn't.

But the bible, especially the old testament, is a book of interpretation. Take a look at the Bible Code or other false prophecies. The Bible is telling life stories, this book is using a lot of metaphers. What we make out of these words is entirely up to us.

And let's not forget that there were a lot of books from the new testament. The canon which we got was decided by a bunch of bishops like 1900 years ago.

All I want to say is that you have to take bible stories with a grain of salt.

A game can’t create itself, there must be a creator. This universe must have a creator and that creator is called God. Therefore I believe in god and that there is only one.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

My personal beliefs are that everyone should simply live their lives, be a good person and enjoy it the fullest, rather than spending it wondering why we are here.

@vlad--it wont do any good, you are looking for a fault so no matter what i present you with at this time you will find some reason to discredit it, i gave you a reference to the power prayer might have and instead of considering it you change what your looking for, i could hunt you up a black and white study and i know you would ask for it to have somethign else, the cycle wont end there will it, be honest b/c i am

then again that is my goal in anything you present, it goes back to the old saying,

"you can find anything you want in anything you look at as long as your looking for it"

so out of respect for Tom wish i wont turn it into a never ending debate

. It was either the Romans or the Greeks, and the book of Job was written in about 1700 bc.  , now if it were Psalms It would have been written in about 1000 bc. both dates predate the Romans, and the Golden Age of Greece (I think the Minoan and Myceans mave have been around 1000 bc.)

Ok, another example- The Bible talks about the Hittite empire in the OT, archs said the Bible was full of crap until it was discovered in eastern Turky, now the Hittites are in history books and in even in Sid Myers Civ. People said the bible was wrong and the place never existed, they said it was a metaphor or whatever... until they were proven wrong.

Also the Bible has alot of Metaphor in it. But most of it is in the Poetic sections like Psams, Proverbs, Song of Solomon. Also when it come to prophecy there is some sybolism and such. They does not mean it is not true however. Think about it, Some dude from 700 bc (Daniel) is trying to describe what things will be like at the end of the world... everything would look foriegn to him to he has to describe it. Same with the Book of Revelation.
