You get used to it eventually. I could tell you horror stories of my years in retail, believe me...
Like this woman who was trying to return a toy of some sort back when I was with Wal-Mart. The toy had obviously been used, and the box, bag and receipt were all from K-Mart. They called me up to the service desk to check it out, and I informed the woman that, no, we do not accept merchandise from K-Mart, as they are not us. She told me that she never shops at K-Mart, and that the toy was from this very store. Much sad arguing ensued. Eventually the manager walked up and I explained the situation, he looked at me and said, "What's wrong with you, let her return it!", walked up to the woman and apologized and said that I would be dealt with. She gave me the most smug look I have ever seen a manatee give, and walked away. I was then told to never argue with a customer... glad I don't work there anymore...
Or there was this one guy who was very upset about the fact that we didn't have a piece of furniture in stock, and that we couldn't sell the display. So angry in fact that he threatened to come back to the store with his 12-gauge and, "Fuck your shit up". I said "Fine, do it. When you come back just ask for Gary in Management, and we can handle this like men!" It should be noted that I am neither Gary, nor in management, nor did the guy come back.
The problem is, the good customers are the ones who don't need your help, so you never have the occasion to run into them; the morons, on the other hand...

Then as she was leaving she told the cashier "tell that fatboy that he needs to learn not to argue with the customer." If I would have heard her say it, I might be applying at Circuit City today because I would have told her that if she "hadn't dropped out of high school to become barefoot and pregnant then maybe she would be able to read the sales tag and then there wouldn't be an issue in the first place." In my year at my job, I have never been yelled at even once by a customer. Even the customers that come in every day asking if we have Wii's are nice to me because I'm nice to them. But something about getting told off by some bitch who wanted to save $5 dollars made me want to tell the bitch off. |
Man, sorry about that. I've had a couple of those retail sadists at my Kmart, and they are so good at destroying your day.

Oh man do I have some good ones, I used to work in a Pet Boarding facility and one time we sent the wrong dog home with the wrong owners!!! their dog was identicle and they were and older pair so they didn't really notice it until they got home and took a closer look lol, Man there were heads rolling around there for about a week straight after that!!!!
