Amazon.com this week discounted Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox Live subscription for the Xbox 360 to under $40 in the latest wave of video game price cuts.

The retailer is selling the Xbox Live 12-month Gold subscription for $38.99, a 22 percent discount from a $49.99 MSRP.

Additionally, it discounted the Xbox Live 4000 Points SKU to $39.97, down from $49.99.

Microsoft in May said that the service, which allows 360 owners to play multiplayer titles, download game titles and view HD TV and movie offerings, reached 12 million subscribers worldwide.

Microsoft on Sept. 5 discounted all Xbox 360 hardware between $50 to $80 to spur sales.

The Arcade SKU now sells for $199, the Pro at $299 and the Elite at $399.

The company in Sept. said Xbox 360 sales doubled on the weekend immediately following the price cut.

The Xbox 360 rebounded in Aug. U.S. sales on strong demand for EA Inc.'s Madden NFL 09 after a multi-month session of sales that notched below Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3.

The Xbox 360 sold 195,200 units in Aug. to rank at No. 4 in overall hardware sales, according to NPD Group Inc.

EDIT: I got rid of the adverts. -Onyxmeth

Around the Network

Advert is blocking most of the info. Is this just Amazon?

In the article it said that the price was reduced by the retailer....doesn't that mean that this isn't an MS thing but instead an Amazon thing?

...

It's probably too much to ask, but I hope amazon.ca does the same...

Around the Network

I can't get those frontend adverts out w/o screwing up the article.

uh, so amazon has a sale and this becomes a price drop? Or did I miss something.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

dang...i need points. Hope it applies to canada... I jsut extended my live till dec 2009 tho...

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Im not sure if this is a price drop....usually on a weekly basis you could find XBL 13 month cards for 39.99 depending on the store.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
