With the release of Hot Shots Golf this summer there should be a significant increase in PS3 purchases. The console still has games like MGS, FFXIII, Gran Turismo, and White Knight Story. However, it's clear that the PS3 is not doing well.

Yeah right... That's what you PS3 guys've been saying all year long... With Ninja gaiden Sigma, Folksouls and Gundam Mosou, my summer holiday 3 etc... It ain't gonna happen! When are you guys finally gonna realise?!... Is it SO HARD?! PS3 ain't gonna sell more than 15k a week. Period!

Nobody said "My Summer Holiday 3" would do anything. And Musou did see a hardware spike. of course the PS3 will sell more than 15 thousand a week sometimes. Certain releases will see hardware spikes. That's how things work. We're just forgetting that because of Wii and DS sales, which are dependent only on how many they make. There will probably be a slight increase when Hotshots golf comes out. And some pretty big spikes for MGS and FFXIII. It won't completely turn things around for the PS3 in Japan, but it will get it off the ground.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Around the Network

As of July 8th:

Wii: 2,984,702
PS3: 997,808

Wii has passed 3M and PS3 1M in actual sales as of today though!

Seven months to do what the PS2 did in two days. Fanboys will still say the PS2 started slowly too LOL.

After HSG, that I suppose will move about 50k PS3`s, Wi`s road is completely open until FFXIII arrives. And with TGS becoming mostly Nintendo`s show ( my bet is that DQIX, SSBB and WiiFit will grab all the attention, FFXIII too of course). MGSIV, RE5 and GT are gonna help, yeah, but I bet they don`t have the power to move more than SSBB and Galaxy. Japan is Nintendo. I expect Wii to have a 5 million advantage over PS3 when FFXIII. In Japan only.

Now on to 2 million :)

Edit: When does Hot Shots Golf 5 come out? That should move some units. I believe it's some time this month...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I remember Sony claiming they shipped 1 million systems to Japan about 2 or so months after launch. Can anyone verify this as I don't remember when exactly the statement was (or who made it).

So, a question I have is if MGS4 and FFXIII are now delayed until 2008, what kind of sales pickup will we see for PS3 this winter? If Japanese gamers are given the choice between getting RE5, DMC3 etc. on PS3 and Xbox360, can we be sure that PS3 will pick up while 360 languishes?

The game's that will sell systems in Japan are Metal Gear and Final Fantasy those 2 games will significantly boost system sales. Although if Sony has a Quirky wierd game in the works then the Japaneese will possibly jump on that too. The fact is that Japanese like games that are much different than popular games in America, and Sony for now has focused their development on the US and Europe. Heavenly Sword might get some love from the Japanese too being it is based on Japanese lore I believe.

wow 3 million sold with no more than 3 good games that is amazing...makes me feel like poopin in a box and sellin it over there as the POO Hell if Nintendo can Piss in a box and Call it the Wii anythings possible. joking... Realy though has no one noticed that the Game Cube could have done everything the Wii does with just a controller and sensor bar. Would anyone let Sony get away with that ? Hell people are already jumping on Sony for not changing enough for the redesign of the PSP.

Wii may sell alot of Hardware but and first Party Games wich will probably be fine with most Japanese but the rest of the world does rely on quality 3rd Party titles . From what we seen at E3 still not much of that coming but then again that could be due to 3rd party sales thus far on Wii

We should see rather significant sales increases with various major titles that are multi-port for the PS3. Generally speaking, the Japanese fanbase is going to defintately go with the PS3 version of every, and any multi-port title between X360 and PS3. Just like in the US, where most will go with the X360 over PS3 - both have their strong fanbase in each country, and have a better brand image and are more likely to sell more in their repsective home countries. Having said this though, the X360 will see significant growth with the titles you named. RE5, DMC4,and various other titles will boost X360 sales by considerable numbers, like the PS3. The % increase might even match PS3 numbers, but obviously, the PS3 is typically selling at a 4:1 ratio over the 360. A quick survey of the X360/PS3 multi-port titles thus far: Ridge Racer Series (6 & 7): Playstation: 139,185 Xbox 360: 72,830 Both titles were released during Launch Periods, and are certainly comparible. We see that the PS3 version sold at nearly a 2:1 ratio (or should end up with exactly 2:1) Armored Core 4 Playstation: 84,976 Xbox 360: 23,252 The Playstation version was released during PS3's launch, whereas AC4 for X360 launched in March, 4 months after the PS3 launch. The sales ratio is 3.65:1 Neither version is charting as far as I know (top 200). Enchanted Arm Playstation: 36,202 Xbox 360: 22,890 A reverse of AC4. The X360 version was exclusive, and launched last January, whereas the PS3 version launched in Febuary (or so). Despite the huge lead, and exclusivity claims, the X360 version sold quite a bit worse. The sales ratio here is 1.58:1 Obviously another example of the X360 having the lead, definitive version and selling worse in Japan. Call of Duty 3 Playstation: 22,097 Xbox 360: 18,125 An interesting comparison, as both launched kind of close to eachother. Here, the X360 version had about a 3 month lead on the PS3 version. This is one of the few games that were given truely equal footing. As we can see, the PS3 version is, as always, doing better. COD3 is still charting for the PS3, and should wind up with 27,500 units. The current ratio is 1.21:1 currently, but will probably end up with an LTD of 1.5:1 or more. Intrestingly enough, the attach ratio for the X360 version is, like many other games, quite a bit higher. Rainbow Six Vegas Playstation: 17,669 Xbox 360: 21,656 RSV launched 2 weeks ago for the PS3, and has already reached just about 80% of the X360s LTD totals. Rather impressive, but like many other games, not a blowout. PS3 RSV totals should reach COD3 numbers, and be around 27.5k. However, like COD3, the tier ratios on the X360 are quite a bit better. Conclusion: The PS3 games obviously sell more. However, this is almost entirely due to the PS3s larger install base. At any point, each of these games, except for AC4, the PS3 had atleast a 2:1 hardware attach rate versus the X360. It can be concluded that this is the driving factor behind the sales, and no other extrapolation is really needed.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

So, I really do not think that those two games are really going to pick up the sales, just take a look at the last two games of the MetalGearSolid series:

Sales

The second one just manage to get around 850, 000 copies, most of them sold in the very beginning.

The third one get around 800,000.

And we are talking about a console with a very large user base, and a good price tag, I do not think that MGS4 is going to move more than 500,000 copies in the first month and a few thousand systems.

Btw, I am not saying the game sucks or something like that, simply is coming on a very expensive system, so I do not expect great sales.
