Forums - Microsoft - what if Microsoft went straight games

I just had a thought, though it would never happen.

What if Microsoft sold the bulk of their company and went to be a 100% Videogame company?

That would be sweetly sick!  My god imagine the size of their R&D dept.  ooohhh! that would rule!

Just imagine if they went non-straight games. Imagine the casuals they could pull in.

my god their games would be buggy as heck.

LOL! yeah I was wondering on whether or not to change the title.

It seems so far my vision isn't exactly what others would have in mind.

They would collapse almost over night. The vast bulk of their money is from OS and OS releated products. If they dumped everything and went straight games the sheer size of the company would crush it with out them drastically slashing jobs and property holdings. This would send their stocks plummeting and they would lose a giant chunk of their capital.

If this is just a pure, what if reality didnt apply to this crazy idea, then I would think they would do ok, but really exactly which first party Microsoft developers make games that are so amazing that you think them being a straight gaming company would be great? Bungie is independent now, Epic is independent. All they would have is Rare and Lionhead as main stays with the Forza developers bringing up the back.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

good input.

but Rare and Lionhead could do really well. Microsoft still holds the rights to their breadwinner Halo

Give up on their other businesses such OS? No way, it would never happen and MS would end up bankrupt. Gaming is just a small business venture to MS.

They would go all OS before all gaming. I think them getting into gaming was a smart business move

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I thought Xbox was all about getting into living room and protecting their DirectX investment from consoles with strange architectures that used OpenGL or something else?

I suppose they could try and agree with Sony & Nintendo that they come up with the OS and supply DirectX, etc. and Sony & Nintendo stick to the consoles but use MS OS for GUI and graphics...

I doubt any of these are likely to happen though...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The MS stockholders would riot and kick the board of directors out for selling off the profitable divisions of the company.
