Forums - Sales - LittleBigPlanet vs. Wii Music: Battle of the Casuals

it pains me to say that, but I expect Wii Music to sell better (and to get faaar worse reviews) - I'm not sure if one of these games will move any consoles by itself

Wii Music will blow LBP out of the water

Oh a lot of people will eat a lot of crow. I mean Wii Music has the Wii in the title so quite a few people will buy it without knowing how bad it really is. But not all consumers are stupid so this will be the biggest flop Nintendo has produced in a while.

While LBP isn't casual, the 2d platformer is the lowest tier of core game, making it quite accessible. Everyone can play Mario. My mom who is afraid to play video games can play Mario.

I love LBP but Wii Music is gonna kick it's ass. Just like Wii Fit easily surpassed GTA4. I just hope it isn't overshadowed completely.

@ Kyros:

I'm not arguing that Wii Music is a great game, I just think it will have a bigger impact on 'casuals' (don't like the word) than LBP. PS3 is the most expensive console and caters to a different demographic. Wii Music is meant for cheap fun and is more accessible. Whether or not you think the game has good quality is irrelevant to this topic.

Did you really make this topic not knowing the answer?

Wii Music will be terrible but it will sell oodles and make Wii's even harder to find.
LBP will be a good game but it won't be half as big as Wii Music and won't do much to push consoles.

I don't think they are close enough to actually compare.

While LBP is more accessible and has broader appeal that say CoD4 I don't consider it 'casual' in nature more 'broad appeal' or a 'bridge title' as Nintendo would call it. I don't think it'll sell many systems and not to sure how much appeal it'll have with current action or sports oriented PS3 owners. Ratchet & Clank didn't do to well...

Meanwhile Wii Music is definately casual but isn't even a game. I think it'll have some appeal to ubercasual gamers (maybe people who only bought a Wii for Wii Fit) but not the majority of 'gamers'.

I'm still awed by the hate for Wii Music. Sure, I'm looking forward to LBP more, but it's not as if high Wii Music sales will kill it. Honestly, I might enjoy Wii Music more than Wii Sports - another game that looks like "shovelware." If I'm gaming with people that aren't into videogames, I rather play something co-op as opposed to competitive.

OT: LBP should outdo Wii Music when they release, depending on the amount of advertising each game gets. Wii Music will pass it with its legs though, possibly as soon as the holidays come around. I'd say it'd pass it next year, to be safe.

As for moving consoles, it'll be hard to tell for Wii Music, because the Wii is still suppy constrained. LBP won't be moving much, no more than MGS4 did at least.

Wii Music is meant for cheap fun and is more accessible.

And I don't believe that. It just doesn't look fun at all. It looks idiotic and all the people who played it said that. I have not seen ONE positive feedback on this "game". Hell even the paid people in Nintendo advertisements look as if they are bored to hell. Just because something is basic doesn't mean casual players will like it. But who knows perhaps the Wii in the title will make it a million seller. But that's all! Nothing else can save this from total embarrassment besides a complete redesign.

Wii Music selling more? Hows that possible? It's not like theres more than twice as many Nintendo Wii's out there......................*scratches head*

Saying that Wii Music will block sales is very laughable though. Very, VERY laughable.

Depends on how good each game is reviewed and hyped. My opinion? Wii Music will sell better no matter what. I'm hoping LBP will be the better game though.
