I think a lot of people are misunderstanding, it's not that he's a nerd, he didn't really develop anything at all. He isn't a nerd by any stretch of the imagination, he is a ruthless business man. He employs/ed questionable tactics and they paid off, simple as that.

That said, if it wasn't for him but everything was left up to Apple, PCs and the whole Web 2.0 still would not have exist. He developed an OS for everyone and really didn't give a damn who used it as long as they paid a small fee, unlike Apple where they only had their OS on the Macintosh. The whole world is greatly indebted to Gates for making computer ubiquitous. Who cares how he did it? As long as I have my internet and my PC where they are today I don't really care. And he does donate a lot to charity to top it all off.

Wrong. He didn't leave, it's just that Microsoft isn't his main activity anymore . Before of his "leaving" he used to work something like this: 6 days Microsf and 1 day fundation, now it's like this: 6 days fundation, 1 day Microsoft.

Not anymore! They've cancelled the ads...so basically they paid Seinfeld 10 million dollars to appear in less than ten minutes of film. And yet Gates is the richest man in the world. Fun stuff!
