I say it is between Fallout or Persona...I can't see the latter being the one becuase it is not "current gen".

The Witcher was 2007's RPG of the Year, winning over 90 awards... far more RPGOTYs than Mass Effect apparently.

No doubt the enhanced edition will be awesome, but I doubt the press will give RPGOTY awards to what is basically an updated version of a game.

Imo, Fallout 3 will probably recieve more cheering because it's coming on 3 platforms, and will ride the idiotic hype of that mediocre RPG called Oblivion, and will take advantage of Fallout's brand recognition and respect. Screw you Bethesda.

Warhammer Online will recieve all the Best Massive Multiplayer and MMORPG awards, and maybe some RPGOTY.

Fable 2 might do something to Fallout 3 on Xbox 360, but considering Molineux's recent track record...

Persona 4 will be PS2's RPG of the year... pretty pointless.

This. Fallout 3 is going to be absolutely huge in terms of reviews/awards. There's almost no doubt in my mind that it will be GOTY.

Personally, I think Fallout 3 is going to be terrible. I hated Oblivion and all the videos I've seen of Fallout make it look like Oblivion + guns + VAT system + crappy shooting mechanics. There are only 2 RPGs I'm currently interested in, Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3. Possibly Persona 4, depending on how Persona 3 ends up being. I honestly don't remember how many hours I've put into it so far (15?) but it's pretty good so far. I lent it to my friend a couple months ago and haven't seen it since.

FF4 is likely far better than anything that will come out this year. If you like crazy stuff, maybe The World Ends With You. If you are talking about mainstream stuff released this year, DQ9 get it. So, anyway you cut it the RPG of the year will be a Square-Enix game on DS.

Those are the best games but as far as which game will win best consoles RPG of 2008, either Fallout 3 or Fable II is my guess.
