Forums - PC Discussion - Turn a laptop into a desktop?

Ok, well the harddrive in my main machine apparently quit on me today, so I am using a laptop I had laying around. Problem is the screen on the laptop is broken so I have it plugged into my monitor. My question is, does anyone know how to set up a laptop so that you can close it, but still have it run and not go to sleep?

I have my mouse and keyboard plugged in as well, it is possible to set it so you can close the lid without it going to sleep right?

Thanks all

control panel > power options > advanced, there you should find three options: closing the lid, pushing the power button, and some comps have pushing the sleep button as well, choose how your laptop should act.

Get a docking station? That's what I use for my laptop. I mean its going to cost you money but that's one way to do it.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

Ok, at the bottom right click on the battery icon and then go to the "More Power Settings" then go to Change settings for the plan you are using. Then click on "change advanced power settings." There under "Power Buttons and Lid" you should see "Lid close action:" Set it from sleep to Do nothing and you are good. This is vista since I run Vista on my laptop. Can't recall how I did the same back when i had XP.
