Actually Sega's parent company, CSK, offered to sell Sega to Yamauchi/Nintendo. He declined because he didn't want to have to assume Sega's 2 billion dollar debt.

because microsft would make them do master chief and mario cross over wher bowser and the covanant team up to take on the earth, only the super plumber and the super space marine can save them.

In situations where Microsoft can't compete on their own merits it makes sense for them to buy companies. The problem is that successful companies like Yahoo and Nintendo wouldn't want to be shackled with Microsoft. Microsoft hasn't found a successful business since MS Office nearly 30 years ago.
How can you go 30 years without finding any new success?
