Forums - Sales - 360 sales expectation went up a bunch!

We'll just have to wait three weeks, when we'll have this week's data, then the next week and the one after the next ones, to have EU price cut effects and the settling of all price cuts effects at least the week after, to start seeing the actual trend. Right now, with the last region's price cut still to be evaluated and the others in their first week's peak, it is still too early to say anything, the only certainty is that previous week's shortage in Japan helped price cut effects there, but outside Japan we don't know either this simple fact.

The price cuts by MS were well timed. They get a boost know. There AAA titles will all be flowing the next few months, they have a major dashboard re write and christmas. Say what you want it was excellent timing on there part and the cut should spur sales for 3-4 months

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

how many times do i have to say this, just because MS cuts the price, doesnt mean sony/nintendo cant!

Do you really think sony can afford that right now tho?

Proud Owner of  a Wii and Xbox 360 and a PS3(When I get the money)

Too early to make any conclusions, other than there is a larger market for a cheaper Xbox 360.

Could have been better, but considering it's still the slowest time of the year for consoles, it's promising.

It definitely cut into PS3 sales, but not to the extent that it changes the playing field. We'll see how the EU price cuts effect sales in the coming weeks.

I'd wait another 3 weeks for NA and JPN sales before interpreting this weeks sales trends as any sort of permanent change in sales rates.

wow i saw 360's in my Local shops for 130 pounds all heavily advertised with some nice games like Halo 3 and GTA IV, that's ridicilously low, i want to see is this going to have any effect.

Wii still will sell, price does not matter when there is such high demand, Ninty can afford to cut the price significantly but they dont have to, and they wont for ages.

The timing of the price cuts couldn't have been better. With the holidays just around the corner, consumers are going to be taking a look at all 3 systems and with the XBox 360 priced at only $200 they are going to be saying, "I can buy exclusives for the 360 or the PS3, but I can also buy multiplat titles for both as well, yet the 360 is $200 cheaper then the PS3, so I can get 3 more games with the Xbox 360 that I wouldn't be able to get with the $399 PS3. With the economy so bad in America, consumers are going to do everything they can to save a buck. I really think the Wii and Xbox 360 will take off in America more so then any other region. Both systems definitely have more games to choose from then the PS3 and both are priced a lot cheaper. The only thing the PS3 really has over the competition is Blu-Ray and a few good exclusives. Besides Resistance and maybe LBP, there really isn't any BIG name games (FF XIII, God of War, Killzone 2, Tekken, Uncharted 2, GT5) being released before X-Mas. Socom is a niche market. Motorstorm was an average racer, Valkyrie Chroncles is an unknown title really. It's not DragonQuest, FFXIII, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden or even Star Ocean. So we have to wait and see how people react to Sony's exclusives at the end of the year. Most new PS3 buyer will be grabbing Sony's previous exclusives like MGS IV, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, etc.. The XBox 360 has Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Banjo 3 and The Last Remnant to wet gamers whistle. GeoW2 will sell systems. Even Fable 2 will get people to pick up a 360. It's all going to come down to what people what to play and how much they want to pay for their entertainment. It's going to be an interesting winter.

^The economy does seem quite down, yesterday my parents told me to withdraw all my money from the bank because they were afraid Wamu might go bankrupt...Looking at articles now I should probably go to the bank.

Yes, perhaps Sony will be forced to cut $50 at the end of October, if good price cut effects on XB360 last more than 3 weeks. Anyway, new lower bulk list price for componentss were or are being released during September, building a console, be it Sony or MS or Nintendo, is now quite cheaper than in June, so EVERY manufacturer can afford a price cut, if needed, it's just that Sony, having higher manufacturing costs, can cut less, unless they accept bigger losses on HW. Here in Europe, however, Sony could cut prices more easily, if needed, the price in euros is quite inflated. But I guess that as long as sales remain good, and on average this year they are, Sony will rather let Nintendo fight MS on the price front, for the moment, and keep on going its own way, waiting for costs to be lower to cut prices.

The timing of the price cuts couldn't have been better. Agreed.

Garbage , the PS3 managed to outsell the XBOX 360 for the last two months of 2007 at a higher price point with a much smaller libary of games , I can't really argue that the 360 won't outsell the PS3 in the last two months of this year but if historical trends are anything to go by the PS3 will likely have the edge this christmas too.

It's funny how Socom , LBP , Resistance and Motorstorm will do little to boost PS3 hardware but Gears of War , Fable2 and Banjo will bring em out in droves. Most of Sony's exclusives are about to become or already are proven franchises , on marketing and promotion alone LBP is likely to sell 1 million units.  But this is really all speculation time will tell.

Socom is a niche game eh ?

1 Resistance: Fall of Man Sony Computer Entertainment 146,535 7.75 3.11m 26th Jan 08

Resistance maybe that's niche ?

1 Motorstorm Sony Computer Entertainment 27,158 7.63 3.49m 13th Apr 08

I hope Sony's all average racers sell this well .

The thing is the generation is completely open. The Wii aside, Niether the PS3 or the 360 is anymore guaranteed 2nd place than the other. I would say 360 has more chance as it's 5 million in front already, but it's certainly not over.

Those who believe or have believed M$ were destined 3rd have not looked at the picture. M$ have proven this gen that every year they have great exclusives in varying genres. 2008 has hardly seen top shooter and apart from Gears 2, RPG's steal the show for M$ in 2008.

Sony also could win 2nd. They would get great boost if KZ2, R2, VC, LBP and WKC all got top reviews.

Point is fanboys on both sides really should sit back and enjoy because I believe who ever is leading after christmas 2009 will come second this gen.
