Strange how this is the first we've heard about a game being cut down for the 360's media. I suspect that this is less of an endemic problem, and more the tech-heads at id being lazy with compression techniques.

It's not the first we have heard about it.

Disolitude - Because 360 charges more royalty fees per disc after 2 discs.

He also mentioned in an interview that they had to work twice as hard with the PS3 version just to bring it up to par with the 360... Maybe if they'd put that effort into the 360 version instead, the 360 version would be even better. So in a way the PS3 gimped the 360 version.

See, I can do the same thing...

No, you can't.  Because you have no proof that the PS3 being harder to work with directly affected or affects the XBox360 build.  But here we have the developers themselves stating that the XBox360's media of choice is a limiting factor for the game across all platforms.

these guys have talked shit about both systems....perhaps they should just stick with PC if they dont want to deal with consoles.

Why don't they use 2-4 disks for the 360?

Probably the same effect as gimping it and not gimping the PC/PS3 port in their minds. If the 360 version is 4 discs and the PS3 version is one disc it could effect sales negativily on the 360, if they just gimp all versions at least all the sales will be even.

Though personally I think they should release the game as they want it on the PC/PS3 and leave the 360 version gimped. You dont see developers making the PS360 versions of games also on the Wii look the same. They use the technology available to them.

eh. Time to see if this becomes more problematic or if the developers will intentionally limit their games from the start.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Because Microsoft makes developers pay for every extra disc over one that is in a particular game. It apparently is something highly unreasonable because a few game developers have been complaining about it. I believe it is said MS does this because every 360 game disc must have certain propriatary software put on them before being distributed. Also It would mean massive number of 360 games being on multiple discs, showing it's age way to early in front of it's nemesis, the PS3.

This is exactly what I personally have been ranting about for months yet people look at me like I am crazy. In order to keep the monolith MS at bay these companies will downgrade the PS3 version just to suit the 360. This is the same thing that I feel has happened with Final Fantasy XIII, dude I just know it is. And I will be royally pissed if FFXIII does not at least fill a 50gb disc.

Let's see..... Spend the budget putting content in the game, or spend the budget learning how to compress content into the game but having no money to now make that content.....

I agree Mr. Bubbles, personally after all that whining about the royalty fee I really could care less about this game. If they think the royalty fee cost is expensive than I don't really expect a good game from them. If it was good than it could go multi-disc on Xbox and still pull a profit. Or if their game was THAT AMAZING they could just pull the game off 360 completely and release the "Complete" version and make enough money. Why do they really need the 360 fanbase? Seems like they're worried about profits.

Not to mention Doom 3 wasn't impressive to me at all. If this was 10 years ago in the Doom and Keen days I'd still have respect for them but who really cares about ID these days?

^ I think they are more upset with MS trying to nickle and dime them because of their own F' up by not using a media format that holds more data. Just like they do to the consumer. Take of useful components of the system then overcharge for them when the consumer realizes they need one.

yes and no. This is MS's fault for charging game makers per disk. It should not cost more in royalties if your game is 1 disk or 5. if MS would drop that bullshit, they would have put it on 3-4 disks and been done with it.
