Forums - Sales - Spain: Sales Thread

Alejandro Camino, director of marketing for Xbox 360 in Spain in an interview today:

What is your forecast of sales by lowering prices?

The barrier of 199 euros is key in the world of video games. 70% of consoles sold below that price. We spent the barrier that in March with the model Arcade and noticed in our sales.  We currently have an installed base of about 340,000 machines and our forecast is more than half a million after Christmas. It is a very conservative scenario.

As always, I generally assume manufacturer's numbers to be sold to retailers.

18/09/2008:

Worth a fact: if in the first seven years of life on DVD sold over three million players in our country according to the Ministry of Culture, Blu-ray has only managed to reach 12,000 players use only in the five years leading in our market (data from Blu-ray Club).

In this poor figure is in addition to the 700,000 PlayStation 3 (a last-generation console that comes with this system) sold in Spain so far, according to the German Gfk consultant, and some high-end computers that incorporate standard.

VGC = 385k
But i think VGC also include Portugal numbers. Anyway if 340k is shipped numbers then VGC is way off. This proves price cut will do nothing for 360 in EU.

Anyway thanks again BKK2.

installed base doesn't mean shipped, so i think these are sell through figures, with portugal added, i think the figure is spot on.

350 k in 3 years ?

LOL I like how he spits the MS line of the magical 199 price....the GC sold 100% under 199...

Anywas vgchartz seemed to have overtracked the 360 a bit because Portugal is way smaller and those are shipment numbers...

did sales really go up that much with the last price cut?

Latest PS3 LTD figures in Germany come from GfK which was 640k. So any figures coming from MS should be considered shipped.

I've seen "installed base" = shipped so many times that I no longer take the phrase at face value when it comes direct from the manufacturer.

Having said that, I don't think there would be a major difference between sold to retailers and sold to consumers in Spain. Previously Sony expected a 50,000 difference between the two for PS3, so for 360 it's probably quite a bit lower than that.
